Our officiants are not marriage and family therapist, psychologist or pastoral counselors. We strongly recommend that the couple seek the professional help needed in their community. No. We do not, under any circumstance, provide any professional advice beyond that of the marriage ceremony.

Many times those who are in partnership must attend classes, events, seminars, parties or conferences by themselves. Even if your partner can't come, you can learn valuable skills that will enhance and heal your relationship. When you work on yourself, it affects all parts of the relationship and can move you and your loved one into a more exciting, fulfilling, romantic life.

To create a reconnecting foundation and develop skills that can create more safety, we strongly recommend 10-12 sessions. As soon as possible during the course of your sessions we will encourage you to attend one of our "Getting the Love You Want" couples workshops. We find that this workshop reduces the number of counseling sessions you will need. This workshop is equivalent to 6 months of couple's therapy and for some couples the workshop alone is enough.

Following your first visit, we well have a staff member call at 2 weeks to evaluate your progress. Our staff will be available to support or assist you during office hours via email, phone, or in person. I don't see anyone individually who is in a relationship. To do so from my perspective sends a message to couples that the person who goes to the therapist has the problem and the other doesn't. My own personal and professional experience suggests that neither partner is more problematic than their partner. Indeed each are equally in pain. So, by all means, having the couples at the first and subsequent sessions is a requirement.

Ideally both partners will seek counseling to heal a painful or moribund relationship. However, we recognize that sometimes only one partner is willing to seek help for a troubled relationship. Consequently, we have created a program called "Invitation to the Dance of Intimacy--One Can Tango!" to provide Imago-based therapy and support for the partner willing to work on the relationship alone.

Your partner is welcome to come with you to the visit and wait in the waiting room. However, the STD screening is a confidential process and is done on a one-on-one basis with the counselor. Following the completion of your visit, if you or your partner has further questions, we would be happy to see you together at that time.

Your supervisor will expect you to be at work when your shift is assigned. Prior to each semester, it is most important that you work out a new schedule with your supervisor. Changes to your schedule should be discussed with your supervisor well in advance. If you have an emergency and will be absent or late, you must notify your supervisor as early as possible. Repeated absenteeism and tardiness can be a serious hindrance to your department's operations.
