NOD32 supports both automatic and manual updates. By default, an automatic update task is scheduled after the installation of NOD32. If necessary, a manual update can be forced by clicking the Update now button in the main update panel.

A test of NOD32's functionality can be acomplished by means of the eicar test file. To test AMON, temporarily disable IMON by unticking the "Internet Monitor (IMON) enabled" checkbox in the IMON panel. Next, download the eicar test file from here. Since use of heuristics extends the detection capabilities beyond a specific set of known viruses, there is no exact total number of viruses detected by NOD32. Of course, there is no antivirus program that detects absolutely all viruses in the world. To improve detection of not yet known viruses, NOD32 uses a sophisticated heuristic techniques.
