The Road Commission is not a supplier of driveway culverts. As a property owner you must obtain your driveway culvert from a local vendor. The only instances where we install driveway culverts is when we are doing a major ditching or construction project on a road. Normally the distance is thirty-three feet from the center of the road; however, there are exceptions depending which road you reside on; so please call our office.

Installing a culvert is a task that requires joint commitments and cooperation from the land owner and the Division of Highways. The City is not responsible for drainage on private property or between property owners. The first course of action should be to discuss the problem with the neighbor to try and resolve the problem. If the neighbor cannot or is unwilling to resolve the problem consideration should be given to modifications on your property that would resolve the problem such as a swale between properties or installation of drain pipes .

That will be determined by the Right-of-way Inspector after you have applied for a Revocable Encroachment Permit.

Provided the substrate is in good condition, StreetPrint? can be applied as an overlay to existing concrete, asphalt, or stone base. If the existing driveway is asphalt, in good condition, the pavement can be reheated and StreetPrint? can be applied.

You do not need a permit from the Landmarks Commission to perform ordinary repairs or maintenance chores. For example, you do not need a permit to replace broken window glass, repaint a building exterior to match the existing color, or caulk around windows and doors. In the unlikely event the ACCUSTAT® needs repair the face plate housing is removed (with the circuit board attached) and returned to the factory. The mounting plate can remain on the wall. It can be returned via UPS or an overnight carrier and returned to you in a day or two.

Complete an Entrance Application form, which is available at the County Engineer's office, 1400 West 6th St., Carroll, Iowa. The application form must be signed by the landowner and indicate where the entrance will be built. The landowner will then need to mark the location of the proposed entrance and the Engineer will examine the site to determine the necessary size entrance pipe.

Normally the answer is yes; however, it is always advisable to contact our office and your township zoning board. Anytime a person or business does any construction work in the road right-of-way (normally 66 feet - 33 feet each direction from the center of the road) the should obtain a permit. The townships pay for the application of chloride on local roads in their township, and each township contracts with the Road Commission to take care of this.

A Driveway Permit is issued when you are doing an asphalt overlay of your drive, or a removal and replacement with either asphalt, concrete or pavers. A permit is not required for seal-coating. A Site Work Permit form can be mailed to you or is available at the Village Hall. The Village requires a copy of your proposal describing the work to be done. If you are changing the shape of the drive, a Plat of Survey is required showing both the existing drive and the proposed drive.

COVERAGE - The application rate of driveway sealers and resurfacers is important. If you don't use enough, you've left untreated areas of the driveway. If you use too much, the sealer will never "set up" and it the excess will track into your home. It is recommended that you spread a thin layer of sealer, let it cure, and apply a second coat only if necessary. Coverage rates will vary by sealer and by the condition of your driveway.

Depending on how wide your driveway is, you will typically need between 2 and 5 ramps. Two ramps for a single car driveway, and as many as 5 for double or small triple driveway.

Some streets in the Scarborough District are candidates for the installation of long duration (maximum 12-hours) parking. The policy regarding installing long duration parking dictates the following: Off-street parking must be non-existent or deficient, based on the number of driveways versus the number of homes and in accordance with zoning requirements for parking. (ie. at least one off-street space per home) Long term parking periods will apply to one side of the street only.
