No, it is not necessary and takes away the layers that give the nail its strength. If you must buff the nail, do so only once or twice a year using a natural buffer. Also, buff in the direction the nails grow, not side to side, to avoid splitting.

Two ways to remedy this. One, rough up the nail, prime, and add more product. Two, simply add a coat of matching nail polish. The longer you use Polished Nail Systems the less likely this will happen. If the white shows through on the sides or the free edge try: One, shorten the nail to fix the free edge. Simply bevel underneath the free edge of the nail.

Make sure not to graduate too quickly from a 180 file to the white block. Try using the white block buffer a little longer than seems necessary. Be sure to wipe all grit and dust from the nail and the 3-way buffer, as even the smallest amount of dust will prevent a high gloss. Cuticle oil may be helpful. There may be a slight color variation from batch to batch. Allow the polish to dry completely before you decide it doesn't match.

Chemotherapy can cause your nails to become brittle and grow slower than usual or become very soft. It is common to see a white or dark ridge in the nail after several weeks of chemotherapy. Clip your nails short and protect them from added stress, but do not cut your cuticles. Don't use artificial nails; they could possibly cause a hard to treat fungal infection. You should keep them short to prevent further damage from catching them, and ask your doctor about having the clippings analysed to make sure you do not have a fungal infection. A fungal infection can be an additional problem in damaged nails but can also mimic the typical changes of psoriasis. Topical vitamin D agents on the affected part can sometimes work if applied and covered with polythene, but this may only be practical at night.

When it comes to PMC, though, work needs to be burnished before polishing, and usually I find that the burnishing provides all the shine I want. If you were to skip the burnishing stage and move directly to a rotary polishing buff, you would find that the polishing compound cakes into the microscopically prickly texture of a PMC surface. Instead of being polished, the piece will appear dirty. Not what you want!

This is a highly misunderstood subject. Acrylic nails DO NOT cause nail fungi. However, some clients who wear nail enhancements do get a more common disorder commonly known as nail mold. Mold occurs when the nails are not maintained on a regular basis (every 2-3 weeks), or when the artificial nails are applied improperly.

Fungus on the nails usually presents as a darkening yellow, sometimes blackish and opaque discoloration of the nail. It can also present as white splotches on the nail. As the fungus progresses, the nail can get thicker and brittle.

The simplest way to avoid ingrown nails is to trim your nails straight across and slightly round off the edges with a file. If you tear at your toenails rather than cut them, STOP! You are heading towards developing an ingrown nail if you do so. If you find that the edges of the skin closest to the nail are rough, moisturize them and you can even use a pumice stone to soften them.
