If you are doing a conversion for a 9006 setup using the custom fabricated beam pattern correct kit, then no modifications to the HID lamp is needed to make it fit. Some headlamp housings where the 9006 bulb is held in by a clip may require the removal of a small tab on the inner edge of where the bulb enters the housing. This can be done using a file, but care must be taken not to allow any particles or dust to enter the headlamp housing.

The base, mounting system, connectors, and electrical specifications are far different, and the end result would be poor light output from your headlight housings. We do not recommend this.

HID's will put no more wear and tear on the housings than the stock halogen bulbs. Our HID kits run at 35 watts compared to the 55 watts of most halogen bulbs. What does that mean? Out HID kits run cooler than the stock halogen bulbs in your car.

In Touaregs equipped with Xenon lamps, the inner lamps in the headlight assembly are traditional high-beam halogen lamps, however these are only used for the "flash to pass" function, which is activated by pulling back on the headlight lever on the steeri ng column. Volkswagen decided to put these additional halogen lamps on Xenon-equipped Touaregs because rapidly turning Xenon lamps on and off during the "flash to pass" function significantly reduces the lifespan of the lamp.

You can use a dimmer with a halogen lamps but some low voltage halogen lamps require a special dimmer. Particles from the filament in a halogen bulb will cycle from the filament to the inside of the quartz envelope and back while in operation. Halogen bulbs used on a dimmer will last longer if they are set to full "ON" for two minutes before being turned off — this helps the particles from the filament complete their cycle.

The limits of the halogen technology was reached with the introduction of the PREMIUM lamp. This lamp offer 30% more light on the road ahead compared to a standard lamp. The only way for further improvements was via a new technology. The gas discharge lamp proved the answer.

As a result of grain boundary etching and the development of porosity due to tungsten evaporation (near the end of life, a cross-section of the filament resembles Swiss cheese) within the filament, the resistance increases during life so the current decreases at constant volts. However, the current decrease is not substantial. Light output over life will depend upon both operating wattage and any bulb blackening caused by tungsten deposits on the bulb wall.

There are two kinds of bulbs used in halogen lamps: transparent and translucent quartz bulbs. Materials inside the halogen lamp include tungsten filament, molybdenum foil, and filling gases consisting of a combination of Nitrogen (N2), Argon (AR), Krypton (Kr) and a small amount of halogen gas made up of iodine (I), bromine (Br), chlorine (Cl), and fluorine (F). The base of the lamp is usually made of steatite or heat-resistant metal.

The fitter you are, the more you will enjoy it. Conversely, the less fit you are, the less you'll enjoy it. If you're extremely unfit, you may even fail to enjoy it to the point of collapsing in a lifeless heap somewhere along the way and having to be buried on the spot by your fitter companions. In the absence of any agreed universal measure of fitness, consider that for a somewhat unfit twenty-two year-old (me) it was difficult but manageable.

Nareman Virk says that he's using 130/100W bulbs and they are noticeably better. I'm not sure whether it's legal to change the wattage of bulbs. Anyway, the headlamp plugs, the things that plug into the back of the bulb with 3 wires coming out, have melted on both sides of the car. Nareman has replaced them with heavy duty ones from a Fiat Uno diesel. Mike Jukes says that you must be careful that you don't over do it on the wiring. If you overload it you may burn it out.

The problem is that over-run cut off can produce unpleasant oscillations as the car rolls to a standstill. It is therefore good practice to delete this function from the ECU - as Jaguar had to hurriedly arrange after introducing the manual 3.6 XJ-S.

We strongly recommend that you do not try to fit HID headlights yourself. These headlights require electronic control gear that can interfere with other electrical systems on your car, for example the airbag. They also produce extremely high voltages that could be potentially lethal. There are car manufacturers that offer a service to retrofit high intensity discharge headlights to some models of car (BMW, VW). Other manufacturers have not yet decided whether to offer a similar service.

The halogen cycle effectively prevents blackening f the bulb wall so that there is no reduction of light output or color temperature.

The coating used on infrared halogen PAR lamps is made from tantala and silica. It is applied only to the outside of the bulb.

No. Standard 12V automotive power sources are incompatible with the HID light source. The standard halogen bulbs run at 12V, while HID lamps run at approximately 25000V and require several amps to start up. The additional hardware that comes with the kit is needed to convert your car's 12V power source to drive the HID system. The connector is also totally different from any automotive halogen bulb connector. Yes and no.

If need be, the entire kit can be removed and the original halogen bulbs replaced within 20 minutes. The HID conversion kit can then be re-installed into another vehicle that uses the same bulb size.

You will need 2 control ballasts, 2 ignitor units, special high voltage wiring, and 2 HID light sources. This is the bare minimum to allow the HID system to work. To make the HID work optimally, there may be several other issues that need to be resolved. This usually depends on the year, make, and model of your car.
