Many students do not know that they have satisfied most LBCC AA requirements in Liberal Arts at LBCC when they complete admissions requirements for a CSU or UC school. If you completed LBCC GE Plan B or Plan C with 60 transferable units and have completed the reading proficiency requirement at LBCC, you may petition for an AA in Liberal Arts (option II) at Long Beach City College. Students apply for the degree during the semester when the degree requirements will be completed.

Any course numbered between 1 and 99 are automatically transferable to a Cal State school. For example, LBCC Math 37 is CSU transferable but Math 130 is not.

Immigration transfer is different than academic transfer. Even if you are completing an academic program at another institution or you will return to your home country for under 5 months before returning to attend LBCC, your former school must still transfer your immigration record. You must obtain a new I-20 from LBCC as part of the transfer process. Every visa category has different restrictions regarding who may study and who is not permitted to study.

The Committee on Study Out of Residence has limited the possibilities for study outside of Harvard College . It is, therefore, difficult to meet this requirement at another college, but summer school remains a possibility. To find out whether a course would fulfill the statistics requirement, please send a copy of the syllabus to the Director of Studies.

The only hours that will transfer are General Education hours, and only if the technical college is COC (Committee on Colleges) accredited.

Certification of GE-Breadth (LBCC Plan B) is not required prior to transfer. However, it is highly suggested. CSU campuses will accept partial certification of one or more complete areas (e.g., all of the units required for Area A). The "Golden Four" courses, which are part of General Education, are required for transfer to CSU campuses. Completing all of the areas and obtaining full certification will fulfill all lower division general education at a CSU campus.

IGETC Certification is one way of satisfying the lower division general education requirements before reaching a CSU, UC or selective private university. The IGETC is not an admissions requirement. Completing it is not required, nor does it guarantee admission to the campus or program of choice.
