This is a tough one. Every puppy responds differently to different training styles. It all depends on how you want to train your puppy and where you want them to use the bathroom. Some people don't want to take their dogs outside to use the bathroom. Paper training and litter box training are two options for this group. Paper training involves training the puppy to go on newspaper or piddle pads (aka weewee pads or puppy pads).

Most BMCs are very clean animals that don't like to soil their space. Crate training a puppy or dog is highly recommended for those times when you cannot directly supervise the dog. Later the puppy will be old enough to be trusted alone in the house. Except at night when he should go to sleep, do not use to crate for longer than three to four hours in the day. Nor should you use it as punishment as the puppy will view the crate as discipline and hate going into it.

Toy poodles are so small that they can live in a small apartment and still have plenty of room for exercise.

It is a great idea to spay or neuter your poodle. This is helpful for preventing unwanted pregnancies and male dog marking. Be sure you have a wonderful and trustworthy vet perform the surgery. Altering a pet requires anesthesia. Small animals can get overdosed and die. Ask lots of questions about the process, and make sure you feel comfortable with your vet before allowing him or her to anesthetize your pet.

Some dogs might like one treat better than another dog. You will have to do a bit of experimenting with your puppy to see what he or she likes best. The moist, meaty treats tend to go over better than the milk bone biscuits. Some people give cheese as a treat, and dogs love cheese!

There is no easy answer to this one. The average toy poodle litter size is 3-4 puppies. Teacups typically have less. Some dogs have just one puppy in a litter. The most we've ever had in a litter is five. Other breeders we know have had 6-7 puppies in a litter, but that is unusually high.

It is always best to brush a poodle and get all the tangles out before giving a bath. Once the hair is wet, it is more difficult to get the tangles out without cutting. There is a grooming tool called a mat breaker for those more difficult mats. If it is impossible to remove the mat without hurting the dog, lather up and bathe. Use a cream rinse or conditioner, and leave it in. Brush or comb the dog with the conditioner still in. Take your time, so as not to hurt the dog.

We use all-natural products that contain no chemicals or lanolin. These are especially important for dogs with allergies or sensitive skin. A poodle's hair grows, so you will need to cut it. You can trim a poodle to have just about any look you'd like. The hair on the face can be shaved entirely, left long to give them a puppy look, or left with just a mustache and beard. Some poodles are groomed to look like a Bischon Frise. Keeping them in a “show cut” is very difficult and time-consuming. Take pictures to your groomer when you start getting your puppy's coat trimmed, and show her or him what you like.

Some poodles retain their puppy teeth. If the baby teeth do not fall out, the vet must remove them. This is common in the tinier poodles. There is no way of knowing which puppies will need this done. Just watch as they get to about six months, and make sure you do not see a second row of teeth growing up. If you do, let your vet know. He or she will advise you when they need to be pulled.

Havanese are small dogs of the Bichon family. If your family dog growing up was a lab or a shepherd, you may have found house training occurred very easily. This isn't always the case for many small dogs including Bichons. Havanese do take work and consistency to house train. It may take months before your dog is reliable in the house.

Show quality dogs must be as flawless as possible. The AKC maintains information about its standards online at http://www.akc.org. We breed for pets only. We also do not line breed or inbreed, which you will find a lot in a show dog's pedigree. Some say that a show dog will have a longer nose and longer legs. We like the short babydoll face and square body of the poodles we breed. Also, show dogs tend to be as close to 10 inches as possible, while some pet quality poodles are much shorter.

First decide what size of poodle would best fit your lifestyle. Smaller poodles (teacups) might not fit as great with young children. Full-size toys or small miniatures with nice and sturdy bone structures are best for playmates in these situations. Take a look at all the different colors available, and see what you like best. Male or female should not be a big factor, as they both make great pets. It is a little pricier to have a female fixed than to have a male dog fixed.

If you're just concerned about in-between grooms, you should be fine with just a few basics. Start with shampoo and conditioner (if you wish). Combs work best for getting out tangles, and slicker brushes are less rough on a puppy and give them a nice fluffy look when you brush and blow dry them at the same time. You can use your fingers to pluck hair from the ears (or have your regular groomer or vet do this), although there are tools made especially for this task.

Our puppies range from about 1.5 to five ounces at birth. If a dog has just one puppy, that puppy will receive all the nourishment and tend to be bigger. Birth size really has nothing to do with adult weight. The more puppies in a litter, the smaller they tend to be.

You must be consistent and patient while house training a Bichon. They are very intelligent but Bichons are not always cooperative with house training. House training can be difficult but not impossible. House training works best if you confine the dog while you are not watching them or else you will end up with numerous "accidents". Crate training makes it much easier to house train the dog.

Yes!  With basic techniques, consistency, patience and love, it's a rather fast process.  This is an owner thing and this ball is in your court.  I have found crate training to be the most effective if done properly.
