Do I need a vent?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR L&L CERAMIC KILNS
Kilns have been operated for years without the newer ventilation systems. Without a vent typically the kiln is vented by propping the lid during the first part of the cycle when the ware gives off fumes. However, a powered downdraft type of vent, like the Vent-Sure that L&L makes, automates this process and improves air circulation and heat distribution in the kiln as well as insures good venting of the fumes to the outside. You MUST be sure to vent fumes generated by a kiln to the outside.

Can I merge my vent with my plumbing vent?

SUN-MAR. The Environmental Solution
No. We realize that this will make your installation easier, but if the toilet is not installed on its own vent, turbulation of the air in the vent will hamper the airflow, and may lead to odors. In addition, vents connected to other devices (such as sinks, etc.) will start to smell of ammonia. The toilet needs to be on its own vent in order to function correctly.

What does the UL listing of a kiln vent system mean?

Skutt Kilns Frequently Asked Questions
It means that the manufacturer has submitted the vent unit, properly installed on specific kiln models, to Underwriters' Laboratories for rigorous testing under actual high-heat firing conditions. When installed on Skutt UL kilns, the EnviroVent is the only L listed downdraft vent system. Some kiln vents use an electric motor which may have been UL listed for general room temperature use. This does not make their vents UL listed.

What is the net free vent area of your products?

Cor-A-Vent : FAQ's
V-300 and Fold-A-Vent product lines have 13.5 square inches per lineal foot net free vent area (NFVA).

Can I use Cor-A-Vent ridge vents with other vents?

Cor-A-Vent : FAQ's
The ridge vent should not be used with other roof mounted or gable end vents. They can disrupt the air flow through the attic. A properly setup ridge/soffit vent system does not need to have power roof vents to help move hot air out of the attic. Whole house fans work great with a ridge/soffit vent system. We do not consider them the same thing as the power roof vents.

How do I figure how much ridge vent I need to use?

Cor-A-Vent : FAQ's
Take the square footage of house under roof X .48 divide this number by 20 (for V-600 products), by 17 (for V-400E or X-5) or by 13.5 (for V-300 or Fold-A-Vent products) this will give the lineal feet of product needed to meet a 1/150 vent ratio. If you are only going for a 1/300 (code minimum) vent ratio divide the above result by two. REMEMBER there MUST be an equal amount of soffit vent (in NFVA) to balance the ridge vent.

What can I do if I have lost a part of the vent?

What is the main difference between a "b-vent" and "direct-vent" gas product?

Blaze King FAQ's Frequently Asked Questions
Direct-vent products derive their combustion air from outside of the home. This is often achieved through either side by side vent pipes or pipes designed with one pipe inside another. One of the two pipes brings in the fresh air and the other expels exhaust gases. Direct-vent products are generally considered to be more efficient than b-vent models.

What is the difference between B vent and Direct Vent?

Regency Fireplace Products: Australia
These terms refer to how a gas appliance takes in the air it needs to burn gas. A B vent unit draws air from inside the home, through ports in the firebox itself. A Direct Vent unit draws air through a pipe from outside the home, into a sealed firebox. Direct Vent models are usually more efficient and safer for today's airtight homes, since they do not use inside air or cause a conflict with range hoods and bathroom fans circulating the same air.
