What is the difference between sanded grout and non-sanded?

Design Flooring Centre, A division of Tiles & More - Welcome...
Sanded grout is just what it says. It has sand added to it to increase the strength in a larger grout joint. It stops the grout from shrinkage and adds strength so that the grout will not crack. Un-sanded grout is used in many wall applications because of it's non abrasive texture. If the grout joint is going to be more than 1/8" you need to use sanded. The only time an un-sanded grout is used on the floor is with the installation of marble.

What is the difference between caulk and grout?

Frequently Asked Questions
Grout is used to fill the spaces between ceramic tiles. When dry it has the texture and character of cement. It should only be used between products of the same type, usually ceramic or stone tile. It should not be used at the seam between tile and any other product, especially wood or wallboard. Products respond to heat, cold and humidity in different ways and grout is not flexible and will crack and fall away as different pressures are exerted by the different products it is attached to. Ability to drive longer cables is less and high frequency rolloff can be a concern due to cable capacitance. Around 1994 we updated the design and changed to the "B" designation.
