What is a power capacitor?

Fhrx Studios - Audio / Visual Specialists
Say your lights dim with bass hits, your speakers start smoking without your permission or your CD skips a beat or two, you might find that your amplifier is trying to use more fast energy than the electrical system can supply. See unfortunately the car's electrical system is not thinking too much about the needs of your added amplifier. Power is being robbed from your audio system by such trifling matters as the engine and lights. This may leave your amplifier hungry for power.

What is Power Factor?

TOTAL ENERGY CONCEPTS - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Power Factor is the measurement of how efficient your facility is using the power that is being supplied by the utility company. When looking at an individual piece of equipment, the Power Factor of that piece of equipment is the expression of its operating efficiency. For example, if the Power Factor measured at the equipment is 75%, then that piece of equipment is only operating at 75% efficiency. See similar questions...

Do these pumps have a start and run capacitor?

EBARA Fluid Handling -- Water, Wastewater, and Commercial Pu...
Yes -- The Model EPD/EPPD is made with a permanent split capacitor motor. The benefit is the permanent split capacitor units draw about half the amperage of a shaded pole motor. See similar questions...

How is Power Factor Measured?

TOTAL ENERGY CONCEPTS - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Power Factor, no matter where it is measured, is simply the relationship between the True Power that is being delivered to the facility and the Apparent Power, which is the actual power that is being consumed by the equipment and is measured by a meter that can differentiate that relationship. The utility measures power factor as a ratio of the true power measured by the wattmeter, versus the apparent power which is a function of the Voltage and Amperage. See similar questions...

What if my Power Factor is already close to 100%?

TOTAL ENERGY CONCEPTS - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
If you have a Capacitor installed on the Main Service of your facility, chances are your power factor reading is pretty good. But, a capacitor only works from the point of installation back to the source of power (transformer), so your utility bill might show a high power factor, but in reality, the Power Factor, or efficiency inside your facility will be lower. Why improve Power Factor?

Brownsville Public Utilities Board - Commercial - FAQ
Improving power factor can reduce power losses and free up the capacity of the existing transmission and distribution equipment for both utilities and end-users. Raising power factor to 90 percent and above is a proven way of increasing the efficient use of electricity. End-users enjoy reduced power bills and improved voltage conditions. The utility benefits from lower line and transformer losses, released system capacity and improved power factor. See similar questions...

What's a capacitor?

Shake Flashlights FAQ
Technically, it's two metal plates with equal yet opposite electric charges separated by a dielectric forming an electric field. Basically, it can be thought of as a simple rechargeable battery with several advantages. See similar questions...

Q:What are the capacitor values needed for the 5V power supply?

Stripe Snoop :: FAQ
The parallel port adapter requires a 5V power supply to power the reader and the buffer chip. We create this by using a 9V batter and a 7805 voltage regulator. Technically, you do not need capacitors as shown. However the capacitors stabilize the 5V, making dying batteries work longer, and allowing voltage picky readers to work. Since we are dealing with digital instead of analog circuits, the exact value of these capacitors doesn't really matter. Capacitors on the order of 1uF or 0. See similar questions...

What is the power factor of an energy efficient motor?

Eastland Industries, Inc.
Power factors vary tremendously depending on motor loading manufacturer. While some energy efficient motor models offer power factor improvements of two to five percent, others have lower power factors than their standard motor counterparts. Overall, replacement of a standard with an energy efficient motor isn't likely to have much influence on power factor. On the average, a power factor improvement of less than one percent is expected. What is unity power factor and why does it matter?

Phase Power Converter, Three Phase Converters
When AC induction motors draw current from the power lines, the sine wave pattern of the current lags the voltage. This relationship between current and voltage can be calculated through trigonometry and expressed as a number called power factor. When the power factor is one this means that the voltage and current pattern are in sync. A poor power factor (e.g. .65) requires the utility to generate more current than the load actually needs to do its work. See similar questions...

Why run your power through an AC inverter?

Bicycle Pedal Power Generator FAQ Frequently Asked Questions
AC inverters have built in voltage input protection that allows for safe operation of your AC powered item. Let's say you are trying to run a 12Volt TV That comes with an AC adapter. You would have two ways you could power that TV with your DC pedal power bike generator. First you could hook up your pedal power bicycle generator directly to your 12V Television TV. The problem is that your TV might blow up in smoke if you provide it with 10 Volts or 14 volts. See similar questions...

What is Damping Factor?

Amplifier Frequently Asked Questions
Though technically more complex than this, Damping factor is usually thought of as an indicator of how tight an amplifier will sound when powering bass speakers. A speaker's driving motor is a coil of wire (called a voice coil) mounted within a magnetic field. As this coil of wire moves within the field a voltage will be induced in the voice coil. How much computer power do I need to run the simulator?

Frequently Asked Question for The Rossum Project and RP1 Rob...
Most of my development has been on a 166 MHz Pentium running Windows 95. It's more engine than I need for the current version. The simulator does run better with a Just-In-Time compiler (JIT). JIT compilers are available in most Integrated Development Environments (JBuilder, Symmantec Cafe, etc.) or in the current JDK which can be downloaded directly from Sun Microsystems. The current version requires about 400 kbytes disk space for the compiled class files, source, and documentation. See similar questions...

Can the Power Tracker? run from a windmill?

MPPT Charge Controllers - FAQ
Yes, but when the battery is full, the windmill voltage will rise tremendously. I had one unit, a PT 48 -20 running from a 24 V windmill and the battery fuse was inadvertently pulled. The windmill voltage hit 250 VDC on a "regulated" windmill. Needless to say the unit was history. Whenever a windmill or hydro source is used, a diversion load of some sort that is not accidentally disconnected is a must. See similar questions...

Do all the cars run power steering?

StevieWalsh.com - Features
Yes. The cars are designed to turn left, and hence they are very heavily weight jacked to turn left. The pressure on the steering is enormous - and to attempt to run without power steering would be very hard on the driver. When the cars are sitting still it is easier to turn the actual wheels on the ground than it is to turn the steering wheel. See similar questions...

My unit will not run on external power, what do I do?

Auto Nav 2000 Plus, Inc. - Magellan RoadMate Series FAQ
here are a few tests you can do. First, is the little LED light lit when the cable is plugged in to the cigarette lighter socket and your vehicle is operating? If not, the fuse in the cigarette lighter adapter may be faulty - change the fuse. If the first answer is yes, then is power available at the end of the cable that connects to your unit? Note, you will need a DC voltmeter to check this and the voltage will vary depending on the model of your unit. See similar questions...

How much power does it take to run a Racecam system?

Goldstar Racecam,in car camera,video,race days,track days
Not much is the simple answer. A single Racecam draws 149m amps and a 2 camera system 298m amps, which is about the same as leaving an interior light on in your road car. We run a 2 camera system in our F2 car which has a total loss system (no alternator) and it has not detrimental effect what so ever on the performance of the car battery. Obviously, if you have a car with an alternator then it will make no difference at all. See similar questions...
