The shelf is easily mounted to the wall with hanging hardware that is included. Ideally you want to put screws into a stud for more support. However, if you do not have that option, use the anchor that is provided. Drill a small hole in the wall and lightly tap in the anchor and then the screws. When a chimney has too much of its length outside, the extreme cold weather can cause excessive heat loss and lead to creosote accumulation. If you have a textured wall, a wood-paneled wall, a brick or concrete wall, or any other rough surface, we recommend the installation of a "liner paper," followed by 2 coats of flat latex paint. We previously sold rests and clamps seperately but found that only 3% of our rests were ordered without clamps. If the rest is adequately supported underneath the rest to the ends of the rest it can be used without attachment. Most people find that the rest is more stable when clamped to the work surface.
