The residence halls close for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and spring breaks. Students must vacate their rooms by the closing hours posted during those times. For Christmas break and May closing, students are to leave within 24 hours of their last exam. The residence halls will re-open once the College is back in session. Parents and students should make travel arrangements well in advance so that students may leave the halls by the required time for each break period.

The residence halls are closed for maintenance and safety inspections during the breaks at the end of each semester. Students are required to vacate the halls at Thanksgiving and the end of the Fall semester and during Spring Break. Although students are not allowed in the buildings during the breaks, they are not required to remove their belongings from their rooms.

Residence halls remain open during Thanksgiving Break and Spring Break. Students are not allowed to remain in the residence halls during Winter Break which occurs between fall and spring semesters. Student’s personal belongings remain in the student’s rooms during this time but everyone must vacate and the halls will be locked during Winter Break. Staff will be available to assist you with move in during the above times. Some students may be required to arrive at a date/time different than those shown above due to athletic team practices or other approved reasons. University Park and University Hall remain open through all breaks. If you live in University Park or University Hall, you will be able to stay in your own room for a nightly charge. If you choose to live in one of the other housing areas on campus, it will be necessary for you to move to temporary accommodations in University Park or University Hall if you wish to remain during breaks.

New students move into the residence halls on the Friday prior to the start of classes and participate in a Welcome Weekend. Returning students move back into the residence halls on the Sunday prior to the beginning of classes.

No, you are allowed to stay in your room during all university breaks. Services are reduced, however, and for the most part, dining services are not available.

While we say that some of our residence halls are co-ed, men and women do NOT share bathroom space or floors. They may live in the same building, but there are locked doors between them.

There is a requirement for freshmen outside of Summit, Portage, Stark, Medina, or Wayne counties to live in the University residence halls their first year. You must submit a housing contract to the Department of Residence Life and Housing. The contract deadline for the Freshman Housing Guarantee is May 1. Halls of residences are place that you live when you're studying (sometimes known as a 'study bedroom'). a resident, you can either live on your own or share with another student. Your bathroom and other facilities will usually be shared, but en-suite rooms are becoming more common. In terms of amenities, telephones are normally provided either on each floor or in each room. Halls can be single sex or mixed.

There are no classes on national holidays. Intensive students will be refunded 500 yen per canceled class. When Monday is a national holiday, there will be no classes, but level check test and orientation for new students will still be performed
