A - You will have EEG electrodes placed on your scalp 24 hours a day for approximately three to seven days. Special electrodes called sphenoidal electrodes may also be used. These are thin wires that your doctor will insert in the cheek area. The electrodes are near the undersurface of the brain and record brain activity that cannot be detected by ordinary electrodes. Placement of these electrodes may be briefly uncomfortable. All the electrodes are connected to the EEG monitoring equipment.
