There is nothing wrong with your filtered water, its just that the filter cartridge has not been flushed for long enough and some of the carbon powder which is left after manufacture is still present. So to fix this, lift up the black lever on the filter tap and leave it open for 3 minutes as this will fully activate the system and you will find that after doing this your filtered water will be sparkling clear.

The most common cause of black particles showing up in tap water is the disintegration of rubber materials used in plumbing fixtures. Gaskets and o-rings can disintegrate over time and some pieces can collect in toilet tanks and around faucets. Similar problems are often experienced in newly constructed or renovated buildings, as plumbers inevitably disturb the plumbing system when they do their work. It is most likely sediment from your water heater - chemicals added to tap water tend to clump and fall to the bottom of a water heater when it is not being used. It may also be from the dip tube inside the heater. The best solution in this case is to replace your water heater and clean out your pipes. Seradyn microparticles are made by emulsion polymerization. For plain polystyrene microparticles, the ingredients are water, styrene, buffer, anionic surfactant, and initiator. When mixed together, the surfactant emulsifies the styrene into the water phase. Upon heating, the initiator forms free radicals which cause polymerization of the styrene into polystyrene.
