The main benefits of carbon fiber over typically used metal tubing are its low density (weight) and high stiffness. These are great reasons to utilize carbon fiber tubing but there are some benefits as well. Carbon fiber tubing has a very low CTE (coefficient of thermal expansion) which means when heated or cooled the material does not grow or shrink much at all. Cutting carbon fiber safely requires the same protection you would expect to use when cutting anything fibrous. First of all you need to protect your lungs from the tiny fibers that may be disbursed into the air you must wear a painters dust mask over your nose and mouth. If you are doing a lot of cutting all masks should be stored somewhere other than the cutting area when not in use. This ensures that the inside of the mask is kept free of falling particles. Yes and no. The common misconception is that carbon fiber paddles are always super stiff and very hard on the joints. What people do not realize is we can control the amount of stiffness in a paddle. We can build things that will not bend if you stood on it to something as flexible as a fishing pole or golf shaft. Physically C/F shells are thinner than F/G shells, by about 25-30%. Sonically, I'm told by those who own both that the C/F shells actually produce a warmer sound than the F/G variety. Carbon fiber hoods are much lighter than OEM (original equipment manufacturer) hoods. Most often, good quality CD hoods can be half the weight or less! First off, YES it is leather. What our manufacturer has done is taken a nice supple hide and laminated a black nylon weave to the top that has a herringbone pattern that matches true carbon fiber. Why didn't they use real carbon? Simple, when real carbon fiber was tried as a laminate, it had a tendency to fray and scuff.
