The release point for the Cat Safety collar is approximately 5 lbs. of pressure, which is appropriate given the range of weights in cats. Although it can be frustrating to cope with lost cat collars, it is very much preferable to the alternative (not releasing when needed). Rule of thumb for fit-ting a breakaway cat collar: it should be snug enough to resist pulling over the cat's head. If it's too loose, the cat may be able to get it's jaw or paw under the collar and release the buckle.

If you do not see your animal, we then fill out a detailed report and ask that you visit us every few days. It is essential that you visit the shelter to identify your pet. In Texas, it is now STATE LAW that all humane shelters have a scanner that will scan all chips, not just one brand.

The Shelter maintains a Lost & Found register on reception. If you have lost your cat, please ring reception on 0114 2724441 between 1:30 and 4pm. We will take your details and also check our register to see if anyone has reported your cat as found. We will also be introducing a Lost Cat register on this site shortly.

MHS does not pick up lost pets. Contact your local animal control. Call or send us details about your pet and we will list it on our lost and found pet listing.

Contact the Manchester Police Department's Animal Control Division right away (668-8711 x441). They are the only ones who can bring a stray dog into the shelter. Contact the animal shelter and let us know that you lost your pet. Be prepared to provide a full description of the animal (breed, color, etc.) as well as any unique identifiers, such as collars, scars, etc. Tell us the location from which the animal was lost, including the name of the nearest major road.

If the Oakland Pet Adoption Center finds a pet with a collar and identification, we make every effort (telephone, mail) to contact the owner and tell them that their pet is at our shelter. The less time your pet spends at the shelter, the less it will cost you to redeem it and the quicker you will have your pet back.

For small dogs (1/2" patterns) we only offer Adjustable collars. We make two types of collars in 3/4" and 1" patterns: adjustable collars (aka 'flat' collars), and Combo collars (aka 'martingales' , 'limited slip chokers' or 'half-check collars'). They do different things. The Adjustable collar is the best all-around collar. The dog can wear it all the time, although many dog pros recommend removing any collar when the dog is crated.
