For most people, UVB is the best treatment option. UVA is less desirable because it requires the use of the drug methoxsalen (Psoralen), taken orally or in a pre-treatment "bath", and carefully measured doses of UVA light using a light meter. These "PUVA" treatments, are much more difficult to administer in the home than UVB. PUVA is therefore usually reserved for the very worst cases and is best done in a clinic.
