What is a floating rotor?
FAQs - STaSIS Engineering Audi Tuning and Alcon Brake inform...A floating rotor has oblong holes instead of straight holes cut into the rotor flange to allow for thermal expansion. In comparison, a floating hat uses a hat with slots cut into it and a straight hole in the rotor flange. In order to provide a quiet street worthy brake system, our floating rotors incorporate an anti-rattle system that keeps tension on the rotor and hat thus eliminating any rattle, while still allowing for proper thermal expansion.
If a rotor produces less drag the slower it rotates, why don't you just stop the rotor?
CarterCopter FAQ on CarterAviationTechnologies.comA stopped rotor would probably not produce any less drag than a slowly turning rotor when all factors are considered, and it has several disadvantages. Rotor blade centrifugal force (CF) provides a moment (force times a lever arm) that counters the blade lift to keep the blades from rising up excessively. As the rotor slows down, at some point there will not be enough CF to handle the blade lift on the advancing blade. This will cause the rotor to flap excessively. See similar questions...

Which way do the thrust bearings go in the rotor head?
Frequently Asked QuestionsYes the thrust bearing races are close to the same size. The easiest way to tell which one has the larger inside diameter is to place them on the spindle shaft and rock them back and forth. The one that moves the most is the one that needs to go toward the center of the rotor. The other one with the smaller inside diameter goes toward the blade. See similar questions...

How do I knw the rotor blades are on at the right angles?
FAQ - Dmoz/Recreation/Aviation/Model_Aviation/Radio_Controll...Actually, this is not something you need to worry about (as long as you have the leading edge facing the right direction!). Once the rotors start spinning, centrifugal force will pull the blades into their proper positions. You will usually see the helicopter start to wobble as you spin up the blades, then smooth out. The wobble comes from the imbalanced caused by different blade lead/lag angles, and the smoothness comes when the blades have both been pulled into position. See similar questions...
Is my rotor watertight?
Norm's FAQS - frequently asked questionsNO! All rotors are designed to be mounted only one way and that is facing up. For those who have a fold-over tower, the rotor must be removed if the tower is going to be left in the folded over position. On the CDE/HyGain rotors there is a tongue and groove connection and, when in the horizontal position, water is allowed over this connection and the rotor will fill up with water. Since nothing inside is protected, everything will rust very quickly. On the HD73 rotor there is an up and a down. See similar questions...
What is a rotor? What types are there?
Welcome to Irrigation Solution : Lawn sprinkler, sprinkler c...Rotors are sprinklers that shoot a jet of water. The stream is moved back and forth across the area to be watered. Over a period of time, the water distribution is uniform. Rotors usually have a relatively low precipitation rate, so one station of rotors can cover a large area. There are single stream rotors, multi-stream rotors, full circle and part-circle arc rotors. The best rotors are gear driven rotors. Avoid impact rotors because the open cases cause big reliability problems. See similar questions...
How can the CarterCopter fly so fast and efficiently? Shouldn't the rotor slow it down?
CarterCopter FAQ on CarterAviationTechnologies.comThe CarterCopter is a hybrid between an airplane and a rotorcraft. A rotor is a very efficient device for providing lift at low speeds, but its drag increases rapidly as the aircraft goes faster if it must continue to support the aircraft. In the CarterCopter, as the aircraft speeds up and the wings begin producing more of the lift, the rotor produces less lift and can slow down given the correct control input. See similar questions...
What does "slowed rotor/compound" or "SR/C" mean?
CarterCopter FAQ on CarterAviationTechnologies.comSlowed Rotor/Compound," abbreviated as SR/C, is simply the generic term used to describe aircraft such as the CarterCopter and our other concepts, which unload and slow the rotor to reduce drag in high speed flight, while using a wing to provide lift in that condition. What about a 4 rotor?
FAQ for 3rd Gen & other useful links - RX7Club.comIt’s a more challenging project than a 3-rotor because the engines hardly exist. The only 4 rotor engines in existence exist as racing engines (used in the 1992 Lemans-winning 787b race car) or custom fabrications. The engine eccentric shaft is extremely difficult (costly) to make in a 4-rotor configuration, plus custom intake and exhaust manifolds are required. Budgets for 4-rotors substantially exceed 3 rotor projects, and so only a handful of 4-rotor cars exist. See similar questions...
