My tubes glow red - is this OK??

AGA - The General FAQ
First, read the orange glow question above. Is the color you're seeing orange, coming from the top and bottom of the tube's "guts"? If so, you're OK. BUT... if the plate, or any part of it, especially in a power tube, is actually glowing red (even a faint red) shut the amp off at once and find out what the problem is. Otherwise, you will certainly destroy the tubes. You could also destroy other parts of your amp, resulting in a huge expense to repair it.

My tubes glow blue - is this OK??

AGA - The General FAQ
Have a careful look. If there are patches of blue glowing on the glass, probably with fairly sharp edges, it's due to electrons missing the anode and hitting the glass instead, making it flouresce. (Most of the tube envelope may even glow. -ed) Quite pretty, and you can play for hours, moving the patch with a magnet... (Don't electrocute yourself!) This kind of glow is common with beam tetrodes and is completely harmless. (This type of glow is by far the most common.

My tubes glow orange or yellow - is this OK??

AGA - The General FAQ
This is not only normal, it's a requirement of tube operation. This glow normally comes from the tube's heater, or filament, which heats the cathode so that the tube conducts properly. If you don't see this, and your amp doesn't seem to be working properly, check the amp in the dark (some tubes, esp. Sovtek 12AX7LPS tubes) have a filament glow which is very difficult to see. If you still aren't sure, let the amp warm up for a few minutes. Then, place a fingertip near each tube in turn.

What does it mean when my power tubes glow blue? Should I toss them?

Kevin O'Connor's Amplifier / Tube Amplifier FAQ
No, you don't have to toss them just yet. However, a blue glow indicates the presence of some gas in the tube, which is not a problem in most situations. If you have noticed an increase in the amount of blue, then you might want to get a new set of tubes sooner than later. Too much gas in the tube can lead to bias failures, blown fuses, and possibly blown output transformers.

Can LEDs produce an even glow like neon tubes?

The short and simple answer is YES! However, achieving the same effect requires a combination of several factors: The LEDs should have as wide a viewing angle as possible. This will allow the light from one LED to "melt" into the light from surrounding LEDs and make them appear as a single, continuous light source. The LED string should be placed a reasonable distance away from the object to be lit.

Ok, and now what's Red Steel?

Mystara FAQ
Red Steel is a setting that is part of Mystara (west of the Known World), although it was released as a stand-alone setting. I have a player of the Church of Karameikos, and I want to give him an Immortal, I suppose that it's a church with many Immortals (like the Greek / Latin church) but in Gaz 1 I didn't find any list of Immortals..

Yeah...ok. But why does it have to be red?

B*tchingLOG...not a weBLOG: FAQs
Its not red. Its maroon. Would you prefer orange instead? I don't like white backgrounds. And it was a choice between black and pink. I flipped a coin, and it flew majestically in the air and landed in the crack of my keyboard. I then took the liberty of taking the mix between black and pink - maroon.

Most of the time, otitis media clears up with proper medication and home treatment. In many cases, however, further treatment may be recommended by your physician. An operation, called a myringotomy may be recommended. This involves a small surgical incision (opening) into the eardrum to promote drainage of fluid and to relieve pain. The incision heals within a few days with practically no scarring or injury to the eardrum.

Question: Is it OK for children to drink NingXia Red™ Juice?

FAQ
Answer: While NingXia Red™ Juice is indeed a potent (non-diluted) blend of 5 fruit juices, it is as safe for children as eating a wholesome fruit cocktail. In fact, the NingXia Red Juice promo DVD concludes with Gary Young's 3 year-old son downing a 2 ounce glass of the juice. However, while it is always safe to drink NingXia Red™ Juice in small amounts, many adults and children prefer to dilute it (like other juices) by adding 3 parts water to 1 part juice.

Can Zoogen process samples sent in red, green or purple top clinical lab tubes?

Zoogen Incorporated
Normally we are able to successfully process samples submitted in these other tubes; however, often special handling is necessary which delays the results. Our typing methods have been optimized using the Zoogen submission kits, so the fastest turnaround will be obtained when your sample is submitted in a Zoogen kit. In particular, please note that heparin, which is the anticoagulant in the green top tubes, can inhibit the PCR reaction so it is best to avoid using these tubes.

Why does the glowing purple thingy [scintillator] glow purple instead of red or green?

A Reference for CHICOS Schools
That depends on the chemistry of the plastic molecules that make up the scintillator material. However, the scintillator material is engineered to produce a fairly pure color (wavelength) of light, and a color that can be easily detected by the photomultiplier tubes we use. FAQ #16b. Why should I buy tubes from you?

Manley_FAQ_Frequently_Asked_Questions
We are only as good as our worst tube. We are very selective about which tubes we use in Manley products and we have several different testing and burn-in jigs to test for certain parameters which will be most important for that tube in a given circuit. We will test and select a tube set for you that will be optimized for your Manley piece of gear and in most cases, your tube set will actually be tested in another one of what you have.

FAQ #16c. Are tubes expensive?

Manley_FAQ_Frequently_Asked_Questions
Not especially. Although I might have made a killing in the stock market had I invested the money I instead put into finding and stocking these large quantities of tubes ten years ago when the USA military were dumping their stocks of NOS JAN vacuum tubes.
