Absolutely not! I exclusively build tube effects for guitar and that's where I will continue to target my research & development effort. My pedals are innovative redesigns of some the most outstanding effects the world has ever seen. An all tube signal path offers huge improvements in tonal dynamics and responsiveness compared to solid-state (trannie, FET or opamp) designs. To my ear, transistorised effects pedals have two major shortcomings.

Proper connection and placement of external effects is somewhat subjective and depends greatly upon the type of effect and the player. Generally speaking time-based/ambient effects (i.e. delay and reverb) sound best when run through an effects loop. Distortion, overdrive, boosters, wah, and compressors tend to sound best when connected directly to the amplifier's input. Modulation effects (chorus, flange, phaser, etc.

We recommend contacting your dealer so you can try various effects pedals with an amplifier to see which ones suit you the best.

mentioned before, when time-based or ambient effects are used, the effects loop would be the logical place for connection. (Note; you should feel free to experiment with testing all effect types through the loop.) For pedals designed to give gain we suggest placing them between the guitar and amplifier input. Pedals such as reverb, chorus and delay providing they have the correct output level can be used in the effects loop if your amplifier or combo has one , most rack effects are also designed to be used in the effects loop of an amplifier.

The grim reality hit me... I founded StinkFoot Electronics with a vision to provide high quality handmade effects to starving guitarists. I've known all along that it was important that the business didn't grow too big - as soon as I would need to employ someone (myself, probably) or find outside contractors to do much of the work, the vision would be dead. The advantage of having an effects loop is that it allows you to take pedals out of the signal chain when they are not in use. This reduces noise and will provide you with better tone. Most pedals are not ‘true bypass’ and therefore introduce a load on the signal which will affect the clean tone.

The short answer is, peace of mind. Tubes offer clarity, richness and purity of tone that simply cannot be attained with solid-state silicon or germanium technologies such as transistors, FETs or opamps. True bypass is no longer an issue because our pedals do not contain any opamp or transistor buffers that will destroy your tone.

The left (soft) pedal works differently on grands and uprights. On an upright or 'vertical' piano--this includes spinets, consoles, studio uprights and large uprights--the soft pedal operates a bar inside that pushes all the hammers closer to the strings, which makes it easier to play softer. You can watch this by opening the top of the piano and looking down inside while you work the pedal.

The easiest way to date pedals is the same way you date some guitars and amps - by the POT CODES. EH, MXR, and most US made effects used pots with EIA date codes on them. They usually start with 137 which is the manufacturer (137 = CTS), then the next digits are the year and week. For example, 137 7903 would be a CTS pot, made in the 3rd week of 1979. Sometimes there are only 6 digits, for example 304731 would be 304 (stackpole) 7=1947 or 1957, 31st week.
