Stand-alone Mesa (downloaded as MesaLib-x.y.z.tar.gz) doesn't have any support for hardware acceleration (with the exception of the 3DFX Voodoo driver). What you really want is a DRI or NVIDIA (or another vendor's OpenGL) driver for your particular hardware. You can run the glxinfo program to learn about your OpenGL library. Look for the GL_VENDOR and GL_RENDERER values. That will identify who's OpenGL library you're using and what sort of hardware it has detected.

In other words, as long as the Java3D classes are installed properly and available, Java 3D applications are invoked in the exact same manner as other applications. The following questions still need someone to write an answer for them. When this is done, they can be moved back up to the previous section in the appropriate place.

We found the question of installation so troublesome with mismatch of versions and users patially installing the software we bundle the complete java jvm and libraries (including J3D?) and in a subdirectory of our installation directory. No troubles since we did that. Topic Java3DFAQ .

Your computer is probably riddled with spyware, malware, Trojans, rogue dialers and the like. It is important to have up-to-date anti-virus software, a firewall, and anti-spyware etc. software installed on your computer. Avast and AVG are both excellent free anti-virus programs. Two good free anti-spyware etc programs are Ad-Aware and Spybot. ZoneAlarm is a great software firewall program that can be downloaded from ZoneLabs. They can all also be downloaded from Download.com.

The web page you requested may go slow, if it's heavy in graphics and a big page. If our servers are loaded the webpage will be downloading slower than usual. Even if our servers are as quiet as a lamb, it will take roughly twice as long for the page to load, since we have to download the page, and then you have to download the page off of us. To fix this, we recommend using the text only feature around the peak hours [6pm-10pm EST].

We use an overhead view because it's better for seeing who is in your adventuring party. Smaller graphics mean that you can see farther and more people, and Clan Lord tends to have lots of people playing together. (Why else be online?) And tiny graphics look better hand-drawn than 3D.

In creating this game, we decided that instead of focusing on creating pretty graphics, we would instead focus on creating a game which was fun to play. Also, since we do coding for this game in our spare time, we decided to try and limit the complexity of the task we were undertaking. A third reason is that none of the current development team is familiar with either of the two dominant graphics APIs: DirectX and OpenGL.

Surprisingly there is no simple way in Windows to check the 3D graphics capability of a PC. The best way we have found is to Start / Run / DXDIAG and view the Display information reported. If the Device name contains nVidia GeForce or ATI Radeon and the memory is 32MB or greater then the 3D graphics aspect should be satisfied. We have received feedback that the Intel 915 (with 128MB of shared memory) also performs satisfactory.

For example, when you click the Bet button during a game, the ComePlay program on your computer immediately sends that message to the main server, which in turn sends it to all players in your hand. Only AFTER the message has been sent does your program start playing the animations to remove the button, make your bet move, slide the chips, play any audio, re-arrange the chips by your side, and so on.

To be pedantic, it is the AST tree traverser which is slow. This is mostly due to lack of optimisation in the current version. A lot of unneccessary copying can be removed, and some short-cuts can be taken with some of the Java language constructs, but this could mean trickier code in some places. It will be fixed as the Java front-end matures.

Java Sound can begin playing as soon as it starts getting audio samples or MIDI requests -- there is no need to wait for the entire audio file to be loaded into memory. Java Sound can be used in conjunction with the Java Media Framework API software (JMF) to stream audio data over the network. Third parties can also use Java Sound to present audio within their own streaming framework.
