Programs for children Kindergarten through fourth grade are offered every Monday at 3:30 at the Main Library. Themes vary weekly. The first week of each month we explore the world Beyond Books: poetry, science and more come to life. The second weekof each month we travel Around the World - we explore the folklore, art and culture of different countries. Create something to take home the third Monday of each month at the Hands On program.

The school system is strongly developed following the American example and it is a very important stabilising factor throughout the country, because it constitutes a sort of hierarchical system. The pupils wear a school uniform so that children cannot be judged by their way of dressing (brand marks!). This enhances the sense of community and the children's identification with their school.

They can and do; many Local Authorities have excellent inclusion policies that apply equally to GME as English provision. The selection of resources available is not wide as yet, but there is considerable work being undertaken at present to develop provision. Stòrlann has produced a reading scheme based on phonics which makes a wide variety of simple texts available for children who require additional support with reading.

All eligible students, including most special education students, who have not passed one or more portions of the AIMS, are eligible for tutoring. Please note: passing the AIMS, as a graduation requirement, is determined by the student's IEP. If a student is not required to pass AIMS to graduate per the IEP, he/she is not eligible for tutoring.
