No vaccinations are required for entrance into Ghana , but you should go over the above recommendations for vaccination with your doctor. Global Crossroad STRONGLY suggests volunteers follow the Center for Disease Control's travel advice ( www.cdc.gov).

For U.S. and Canadian citizens: Proof of citizenship such as a valid passport or certified copy of birth certificate along with government issued photo ID (driver’s license). Naturalized US Citizens: Valid passport or naturalization papers along with government issued picture ID.

U.S. citizens traveling to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda who have applied for but not yet received passports can nevertheless temporarily enter and depart from the United States by air with a government issued photo identification and Department of State official proof of application for a passport through September 30, 2007. Official proof of a U.S. passport application is required and can be obtained at http://travel.state.gov/ .

This depends on which country in which your visit originates. If you are from the U.S. or Canada, you will need your passport or notarized birth certificate with state issued ID. You will also need a tourist card unless you are traveling for less than 72 hours within the border zone (usually no further than 20 miles south of the U.S. border except in Baja California and Sonora which have extended their zones).

Contact your local medical centre or doctor to get information. Weather you will need a vaccination will depend on where in Mexico you will stay. Malaria prophylaxis can be relevant as vaccination against yellow fever also can be. Staying in the Jungle or an other more uncivilised place are such circumstances. Furthermore there is a recommendation to take some stomach medicine i.e. Dukoral, as the bacterial flora is very different from the one in Scandinavia.

In line with Government directives, we advise parents who take up the separate vaccines that their children finish the full course of injections. Parents will be asked to sign a consent form to this effect (a copy of this may be requested). There is sometimes a shortage of mumps vaccine; we do our best to inform patients of availability. Having single vaccinations gives a better immunity level than the combined MMR jab (97% vs 87%).

The last case of smallpox in the United States was in 1949. The last naturally occurring case in the world was in Somalia in 1977. After the disease was eliminated from the world, routine vaccination against smallpox among the general public was stopped because it was no longer necessary for prevention. (added Nov 13, 2002)
