A firefighter’s shift is 24 hours long. His schedule is on a nine-day cycle. For example he is on a shift, off a shift, on a shift, off a shift, on a shift, then off for four days, then the cycle starts over. It all averages out to a 56-hour work week. We have 3 shifts (A-shift, B-shift, and C-shift).

Firefighters are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Currently, our department works what is called a 3/4 schedule. This means our firefighters work a 24-hour shift and are then off for 24 hours. This rotation continues for three shifts then firefighters have four days off. We have three shifts that rotate through this schedule.

FireFighters have many other duties in addition to responding to emergencies. They spend a lot of their time training for structure fire attack, wildland fire attack, motor vehicle crash extrication, rope rescue, interior search and rescue, emergency medical incidents and training for a variety of other different types of calls they respond to.

Simple Answer - Because they can. Federal Labor laws, which regulates when you have to pay overtime for working more than 40 hours a week, exempts firefighters. Long answer - Many fire departments DO NOT work 24 /48. Some states require the paying of overtime (1.5 X reg. pay) for hours over 40, even for firefighters. Some states have unions and collective bargaining and the firefighters have a contract that gives them something other than 24/48.

Dangerous superheated gases need to be ventilated to allow firefighters to safely and quickly rescue trapped occupants and extinguish the fire. By venting the window (horizontal ventilation) of a room that is on fire, it actually helps to contain the fire within that room of origin. Otherwise heated gases spread throughout the inside of the house. Breaking the window really prevents a great deal more damage than it appears to cause.

This is called "venting the roof." There are two basic reasons for this practice. Dangerous superheated gases and dark smoke accumulate in a burning building. Unlike the movie versions of fires, it is impossible for firefighters to see in such an environment or for victims to survive. When a hole is made in the roof, and the building is "vented," the smoke and gases escape because heat and smoke rise.

Your supervisor will determine your work schedule. However, to be considered for employment you must be able to work irregular hours and/or shifts, holidays and weekends, overtime, and beyond 8 hours a day, if required.

The RWRF has a staff of twenty-three, including the WRD Administrator at Medford City Hall. The staff operates and maintains process equipment, performs lab analyses, monitors industries, oversees long range regional planning, and manages and inspects design and construction projects for the facility. User rates are among the lowest in Oregon, and the entire U.S.

The rules guiding the special assessment of farm property are dependent upon whether the property is in an Exclusive Farm-use zone or is not in an Exclusive Farm-use zone. As such, the explanation of the program is broken down into these two categories. Land used for farming can qualify for a significantly reduced property tax. Properties in a rural residential setting (or even in a city) can qualify as well as the established commercial farm operation. There is no minimum acreage size.

Microchips are a safe, permanent way to identify your companion animal. Having your pet injected with a microchip greatly increases the chances of it being returned to you when lost. Microchips are the best back up for a collar and visible identification tag. All pets should wear an ID tag with a contact number on it, preferably your cell number.

Because there are numerous tasks, such as rescue, ventication, and fire suppression, that must take place simultantiously. Sufficient manpower is essential to provide safety to our firefighters and to ensure efficient rescue as fire suppresion operations.

They work 24 hours on shift and then off 48 hours. There are three shifts which are called A, B, C shifts. Their day starts at 8:00 A.M. and Yes we have certified CPS technicians that can check child safety seats as well as provide instruction on how best to use and install them. We have a clinic on Fridays from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Salisbury Fire Station 1, across from Wendy's restaurant. Just pull into the back parking lot off of Council St. and we will assist you.

Property can receive a Western Forest Special assessment and this assessment can be granted in any zone. Forest land is identified as land being held or used for the predominant purpose of growing and harvesting trees of a marketable species. The property must have at least 2 acres stocked with at least 100 growing conifer trees per acre. Properties can also qualify based on a formal reforestation plan.

Firefighters work 72 to 96 hour shifts (3-4 days) at their duty station. Training and equipment maintenance takes up a good deal of firefighters time when they are not on call. Firefighters constantly train so they are ready to handle any type of emergency. Firefighters also conduct fire safety inspections in businesses and wildfire safety inspections on improved property. Firefighters must also maintain and clean their stations.

It depends. Often they simply don't. A great deal of firefighting or searching is done by feel. The glow off the fire or flames is sometimes all you see in the beginning. There are devices that allow firefighters to see in smoke quite well. But these devices are usually not available to every firefighter on the scene. They are usually for very specific purposes. The best you can do is at least to LET ME KNOW what's going on. If you disappear and don't say a word to me about things that are happening in my life, I cannot be FLEXIBLE. I like being FLEXIBLE. I may not be able to give you extensions on your work in an effort to be FAIR to the other students, but at least I'll be aware of what's going on with you and your life.

The Jury Act allows courts to grant temporary deferrals of service on the grounds of "undue hardship or extreme inconvenience." The qualification questionnaire and juror summons provides specific information on how to request a deferral from your individual court.
