We recommend a minimum GPA of 3.4, and GRE scores in the 600 range on the Verbal and Quantitative sections. Note that these are recommendations and not requirements. If you are not able to take the GRE Psychology Subject test, or if you are concerned that the test results will arrive too late to be included in your file, the Admissions Committee will place greater weight on your Psychology GPA.

What we are most interested in is the applicant's research potential. These scores are just one of many criteria we consider. There are no minimum scores. We much prefer students who have taken challenging advanced courses to those with top scores on rudimentary courses. There are many ways for applicants to demonstrate their research potential.

In general, we look for at least a B undergraduate average, but the overall record is of primary importance. Individual programs may be interested in how an applicant did in specific courses, whether the undergraduate background course work was adequate for the program, and whether the applicant showed a pattern of improvement during undergraduate study. There is no specific cut-off for the GRE.

On the GRE, the minimum score required by the Graduate School is 850 (combined verbal and quantitative). The minimum undergraduate GPA required by the Graduate School is 2.6. The average GRE score for a Community Counseling graduate student is approximately 1100 and the average GPA is 3.5. With that said, a deficit in one area can be compensated by strength in another area.

There are no minimum test score requirements. As a reference, however, the average GRE scores for the entering class of Fall 2006 were Verbal: 566, Quantitative: 760, and Analytical: 4.4. General GRE scores are required: your application will absolutely not be considered without them. The Subject GRE policy is more flexible.

The Women’s Studies Program does not have a set minimum GRE or GPA. Average scores of those admitted vary by joint program, but the average ranges are:

The minimum score our department will accept for the computer based TOEFL is 250 (or equivalent for paper or internet based TOEFL). There are no established minimum requirements for the GPA or GRE. The average GPA of the students that were accepted into our program in recent years was 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale). Typically our students have scored above the 60th percentile on the GRE.

On the TOEFL, the minimum acceptable score is 580, with a minimum score of 4.5 on the Test of Written English (TWE). On the computer-based TOEFL, the minimum score is 237, with a minimum score of 4.5 on the essay structure writing component. On the Internet-based TOEFL, the minimum score is 92. Normally, minimum required GRE scores are 600 on the Quantitative Section and 3.5 on the Analytical Writing Section.

We normally tell students they should be in the B+ range to be competitive. The admission process incorporates 1) overall GPA; 2) prerequisite GPA; and 3) GRE score. Each of these areas is weighted equally. Thereby, the applicant could remain in the competitive range if they were low in one area i.e. overall GPA and up in the other two. Historically, applicants with GRE scores below 900 are not competitive.

Your junior/senior major GPA should be above a 3.0; however, if there are extenuating circumstances for a lower GPA, you may still be considered for admission. Please address those issues in your personal statement. The GREs are only one of the factors we consider, so again, if there are extenuating circumstances, use your personal statement to address this issue.

The GRE scores and GPA are very important to gain admission to the ESPM graduate program. The average GRE scores for those we accepted in the program for Fall 2005 were: Verbal: 625/84%, Quantitative: 698/73%, and Analytical: 5.10 or 701/83%. The average GPA for those accepted was 3.60. The GPA is based on undergraduate course work done in the last two years, i.e. junior and senior status.

Each year, from approximately 250 completed applications, our admissions committee is limited to selecting a total M.A. and Ph.D. class of approximately 30 students. There are no specific undergraduate course requirements for admission to graduate study, but courses such as introductory psychology, statistics, and experimental psychology and/or research methods are preferred. For admission to the M.A.

The School of Nursing looks at each graduate application individually on its own merits. We look at a total picture of the prospective student. Usually we like to see a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and graduate GPA of 3.5 for graduate and doctoral students respectively. There is no minimum GPA score. We do not deny admission based solely on GRE score.

There are no minimum cut-off scores but admitted students are likely to have scores similar to other competitive programs in Rackham.

Based on past accepted applicants, the median scores fall into the 80th percentile for each section of the general GRE exam. For information on the GRE please visit the official website at www.gre.org.

SIMS has not set any minimum scores, but normally successful applicants score in the high percentiles (80's and 90's) on the General Test.

The doctoral program does not employ a minimum "cut-off" score on the GRE. Instead, our admissions committee uses the GRE as one useful tool among many to evaluate each applicant. A student's personal statement, references, and academic transcripts are also crucial determining a candidate's potential for admission. However, it goes without saying that a strong score does strengthen your application.

The GRE (recommended) is an important exam score to submit with applications (include raw scores, percentiles, and exam dates). If these scores are very high, often they will be enough for us to act on an application. We generally look for very strong GRE quantitative and analytical scores, a GRE verbal score at or above the 35th percentile. These scores are not required but are used as part of the overall decision-making process along with other criteria. [Back to top]

First we look at the applications on their individual merit. We look at all of the materials and try to arrive at an accurate portrait of the applicant that includes experience, the breadth of previous coursework and recommendations. We do see scores and GPAs in all ranges. In general, however, competitive GRE scores will be in the 600s for the verbal section, in the 600s for the quantitative section, and 5 or above (on a 6-point scale) for the writing section. Competitive GPAs will be 3.

If your GRE scores are less than 5 years old, they are still acceptable. If your GRE scores are 5 years old or older, you must retake the GRE. Be sure to specifically request that ETS Submit the GRE scores to UC Davis ELECTRONICALLY ONLY. A photo copy or paper version of the scores is not acceptable.
