The most likely explanation is that you have rendered the movie at a higher resolution than your computer can play back with the QuickTime compressor (codec) with which the movie was rendered. Keep in mind that full-motion video at broadcast resolution can not be played back by most computers unless it was rendered with a QuickTime compressor designed for computer play back. Almost all movies are encrypted with CSS copy protection. (See 1.11). Decryption keys are stored in a normally inaccessible area of the disc. If you copy the contents of an encrypted DVD to a hard drive, the keys will not be copied. If you try to play the VOB files, the decoder will request the keys from the DVD-ROM drive and will fail.
