Grapes can be grown organically but we are not completely organic at our farm. We use normal grape growing procedures and a spray schedule set up by the Michigan State University. We stop spraying completely about a month before harvest. Growing the more than 20 varieties makes organic grape growing difficult as some of the varieties are very sensitive to disease pressure. If we had a solid block of one resistant variety, such as concord, it could be possible.

Many EarthBox gardeners prefer growing their plants organically. There are several brands of dry granulated organic fertilizer (Plant Right, Fertrell, etc.) that can be used by replacing the 2 cups of chemical fertilizer with 3 cups of organic fertilizer. We have added a 5-6-6 OMRI listed organic fertilizer to our product list.

Most of our wineries also have vineyards devoted to their favorite varietals and fruits. We also have members who prefer to raise grapes without having a winery. These members sell their grapes to our Tennessee wineries and to local markets.

This is a tough one to answer, because fertilization is so tremendously tied to water quality, potting medium, temperature, light and a variety of other factors. However, if you just have a few plants, and don't want to fuss around a lot learning about the intricacies of water and fertilizer, I'd simply suggest you get any reasonably balanced 'orchid' fertilizer, that is low in urea, and use it at approximately 1/4 to1/2 the label strength every other watering.

Adding compost is one of the very best things you can do to improve your soil. Compost improves soil structure, making it more workable; improves drainage in clay soil; improves moisture retention in sandy soil; and provides food for beneficial organisms, like earthworms. The most common type of wire used in vineyard applications is class 3 galvanized H-T wire. While some growers use aluminum-clad wire, this wire is not recommended for vineyard use. Aluminum-clad wire does not offer the galvanic healing properties of galvanized wire. We rarely recommend chemical fertilization except when a sick plant may require a foliar fertilizer for a quick boost. Generally fertilizer is not only unnecessary, it is bad. Compost is what we recommend for plant and garden health. We carry Nutri-brew compost, bagged and bulk.

Yes we do have a vineyard. We have eight (8) acres under vine, made up of shiraz, merlot, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay grapes. We make our own wine and have already won several medals. Our 2001 vintage Chardonnay was awarded 4 stars by WineState magazine in what was the largest chardonnay tasting ever conducted in this country, more than 600 chardonnays were tasted from all around Australia.

We don't recommend using hair spray other than our own Grooming Mist, simply because we don't know all the ingredients that go into all the hair sprays on the market and some ingredients may be counter-productive. Absolutely! We use very high quality (high cost) slide pots and like a fine race car, maintenance is critical. If you keep the pot clean and lubricated it will last many years. If you neglect them then try to restore them with a generic cleaner you will just have to replace them. Don't just use any "contact cleaner", see our Detailed Slide Pot Care Procedure.

We recommend you wait at least 4-6 hours after your session before you go to the gym for a work out. The heat and perspiration may alter your results if you do not wait at least this amount of time.

The simple answer: Yes, if anything, flowering plants need extra fertilizer Your plants will need to be fertilized with a product appropriate to the medium in which they are grown. In general, plants in a bark-based mix will need a fertilizer high in nitrogen (usually in a 3-1-1 ratio), while a balanced fertilizer will do for all others (usually a1-1-1 ratio). If in doubt, fertilize with the same balanced fertilizer you use for your other container plants only weaker solution.
