What receiver or amplifier works best with Audioengine speakers?

Audioengine - Powered stereo speakers for your home and offi...
No receiver or amps are needed as we’ve built the power amps into the speakers. However, if you wish to use Audioengine speakers with an existing stereo receiver just take the preamp out from your receiver and plug it into the Audioengine input (use the included RCA stereo “Y” connector to 3.5mm mini plug cable).

What GPS receiver works best?

Wardriving FAQ by Jeff Duntemann (Wireless LAN Security & Wa...
Pick one; they're all good. Any GPS receiver that can get pick up enough GPS satellites to get a fix on your position will work fine. Most people choose a GPS receiver in terms of what other uses they can make of it beyond wardriving. Many GPS receivers are designed for independent use (in other words, without connecting to a laptop or PDA) and have small graphic screens for displaying your current position.

My amp has multiple impedances available for the speakers. Is one of these the "best" impedance?

AGA - The General FAQ
Use the [highest impedance] tap. There will be a slight difference in the tone (a tad more low end) but that's not the reason to do it; the 16-ohm tap uses the tranny's entire output winding to transfer power to the load, unlike the 4-ohm tap which uses only a small portion of it. This minimizes thermal stress on the secondary. If you use your cabinet in stereo mode (two 8-ohm inputs) and run two wires from the amp, that's still a 4-ohm load, as the output jacks on your amp are in parallel.

Can I stack other components on top of my receiver or amp ?

FAQ
Your receiver or amplifier should not have anything placed on top of it, covering the vents. These vents need to be left open, as that is how the unit cools itself. Most receivers and amplifiers are convection cooled. This process works by heated air from within the unit rising through the vents in the top of the unit. At the same time, the air rising through the top draws cooler air in from the vents at the bottom. This is a continuous process.

E. How do you remove the rear speakers / amp assembly?

Frequently Asked Questions
I just removed one yesterday from the junk yard. It's the same procedure Matt D listed below. Just remove the the rear seat enough to lift the rear deck lid up around the speakers. There are three clips and three 8 mm bolts. I removed all three bolts and two clips. Then I went to the trunk and carefully pulled the speaker and amp assembly down. If you simply need to remove the speaker, that is even easier and can be done solely from the trunk. - /Bryan (91 SE), 6/16/01.

What size amp should I get for my speakers?

Vidsonix Tip, Tricks, & F.A.Q. Page
If the speaker are rated for 400 watts peak and are 8 ohms, then you can use an amp that is 400 watts (peak) per channel @ 8 ohms (an 800 watt amp). You can use a lower wattage amp, but you will be limited by the amp. You can also technically use a higher wattage amp, just don't use it a higher volumes which would drive the speaker over its wattage limit and potentially blow the speakers.

How many speakers can I plug into my amp?

Support - Face Audio
This can be a long answer, but to keep it simple; each speaker has a load resistance usually given in ohms. When you add speakers in parallel, jumping one to another, it lowers the ohms by half (i.e. - adding two 8 ohms speakers is a 4 ohm load on the amp). So back to the question; if in the amplifier specs it gives you the wattage for a certain load (Ohms), it is safe to run the amp at that level per channel.

What is the best placement for Audioengine speakers?

Audioengine - Powered stereo speakers for your home and offi...
It is true that proper speaker placement has a huge impact on sound quality. There are many different theories, but all rooms and tastes are different so it's impossible to specify a "correct" placement. We do suggest you experiment with a few different locations to see what works for you. As a general rule of thumb for the best soundstage balance, the speakers should be equi-distant from side walls and a different distance from rear walls.

Can I use 4 ohm speakers on my Yamaha AV receiver ?

FAQ
Yes, many Yamaha AV receivers are stable down to, but not below 4 ohms. We recommend that you use only speakers with a minimum of 4 ohms. Also, please make sure that the impedance selector switch is set to the correct position as recommended by the owner's manual.

Q10) Can I use an instrument cable (shielded) to connect my amp to my speakers?

Ampeg : Frequently Asked Questions
No. Using instrument cable to hook up your speakers can cause intermittent power loss, cause your amp to oscillate and damage the amp and/or your speakers. Please use 18 gauge cable or heavier (16, 14, or 12).

Do you have to use a special amp with ECLIPSE speakers?

FAQ
You can use amplifiers made by other makers, but the transitional characteristics of ECLIPSE system components, including the amplifier, are all optimised to faithfully reproduce the characteristics of the source sound. From this point of view, it is better to use an Eclipse amplifier.

Should I spend more on the CD player, Amp or Speakers?

Radfords - HiFi - Home Cinema - Custom Installation
There are many schools of thought on this subject. Linn for example say that more should be spent on the source (CD player, Turntable) and less on the amplification or speakers. We on the other hand tend to think that balance is best; basically spend the same on each component. By doing this if you decide to upgrade your hi-fi at any time in the future you will know that your system will always be balanced. Also by balancing your system the features on your equipment.

Q: I see there is more than one choice of satellite receiver; what receiver is best for me?

The NASA TV signal uses the current state-of-the-art. The signal complies to the DVB standard. In addition, it uses the latest in store-forward technology. This operates much like a TiVo, but for an industrial application. Traditional Integrated Receiver-Decoders (IRDs) also work but they provide a lower level of service and features that you would get with the receiver-server variety.

What is the best DSS dish and receiver for my boat?

Track It TV™ FAQ
From a technical perspective, all of today's systems are very similar. Performance is virtually identical. The convenience of menus has become pretty much equal across systems as well. In the US you can get a dish and multiple receivers for almost nothing (under $30) when signing up for service for the first time. To locate equipment and service sources click on Satellite TV.

What kind of set up is best for ECLIPSE speakers?

FAQ
Optimal speaker set up depends on the room environment and every room is different. When installing the speakers there are a number of considerations (listed below) that should influence speaker placement. Walls reflect the sound from speakers and these reflected sound waves can adversely affect the original wave forms. The best results are achieved in situations that have minimum reflecting surfaces in the immediate surrounding space.

What speakers do you recommend for use with your mini-amp circuits?

runoffgroove.com FAQ
While the Ruby, Little Gem, and Little Gem MkII practice amps can be used with any speakers, best results are achieved with full-size speakers intended for use with guitar amps. The amps will work well with an total impedance of 4, 8, or 16 ohms. We've tried hi-fi speakers, clock-radio speakers, and auto speakers - they just can't cut it. For me, using anything other than a speaker designed for the frequencies of an electric guitar produced sounds more like a toy than an actual amp.

If I want to add speakers to an existing site, do I need to upgrade the amp?

ADI-GARDINER UK
You need to take a few things into account here, the wattage of the existing amp and the total wattage of the existing speakers. As long as the amp wattage stays above the total speaker wattage after the additional speakers, there is no need to upgrade. Of course the other thing is weather the new speakers are to be zoned separately and if there is that availability on the existing amp.
