Usually there is someone in the School who knows how to do this and may be able to help you, perhaps using Adobe Acrobat. For PC users, download the free application PDFCreator from http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/ and install it. Open your file in Word (or whatever other package you used) and select Print. You will see an extra 'printer' in the name box at the top of the print dialog called PDFCreator. Select it and click Print, following the instructions on the screen.

A document in Portable Document File (PDF) format does not require a copy of the word processing program used to create them in order to be viewed. A PDF document can be viewed by anyone with a free viewer such as Acrobat Reader, a product of Adobe Systems, Inc. There are several ways in which you can convert a document from a word processing program (e.g., Word Perfect, Word) into the PDF format.

Yes. They contain equivalent information and Acrobat 8 with the Mars plug-in can open both formats and Save-as the other format. To put it technically, Mars and today's PDF are two serializations of the same infoset. Mars uses ZIP and XML as basic building blocks, while today's PDF uses structures called "Cos" and "streams" as basic building blocks.

When creating a PDF it is important to make sure that you embed all the fonts.

Yes. pdf2cad converts to .dxf, the industry-standard CAD exchange format. You can open a DXF file in AutoCAD for viewing and editing. When you save it, you can do so in AutoCAD's native DWG file format. This will also make the file size a lot smaller compared to the DXF version, which as an exchange format can become quite large.

PDF generator software is available to help you save your documents as PDFs. There are several programs available for both PCs and Macs, along with websites that will perform the conversion for you.
