The Clerk's Office receives the initial paperwork from the Hillsborough County Jail after a felony arrest. The Felony Department prepares the official court file, including the original arrest document as well as any release form. This information is also forwarded to the Office of the State Attorney. The State Attorney then reviews the case and makes the determination to file or not file formal charges.

Detectives can book a suspect into jail on probable cause to believe that a suspect committed a crime. Many times the detectives do not book a suspect because they need enough information to determine beyond a reasonable doubt that a suspect actually committed a crime. Law enforcement officers have to legally determine that a crime has been committed. Yes, the law in Arizona authorizes sheriffs to charge up to $2/day for food. This includes charges to pre-trial detainees. If a prisoner doesn't have any money, he still is required to be fed, but the jail can keep a running account and subtract the money from anything he may receive from outside sources. See ARS 31-121 (B). In addition, the sheriffs are authorized to charge up to $10/visit for medical care. See ARS 31-161.

If bail has been set, the only way to get the person out of jail is to pay the bond for his/her release. The only jail facility in Summit County is located at the Justice Center at 501 N Park, Breckenridge. This is the same building that houses the Sheriff's Office and the Summit County Combined Courts. If you drop them off, leave and then come back at a later time or date, you must be licensed by the PTC. For example, if you bring someone to a football game, concert or restaurant and stay to return your customer, you do not have to be licensed.

Yes, the PTC sets the limit based upon a formula of 1 taxicab for every 1900 inhabitants. The number is currently set at 613 taxicabs. This number is adjusted each year based upon a census update. The theory of limiting the number is based upon the thought that there should be enough taxicabs to serve the public adequately but not so many as to cause the taxicab drivers to operate at a loss.
