Consumers who wish to check for the presence of XCP content protection software on their computers may download a detection tool from the SONY BMG website.

SONY BMG has provided major software and anti-virus companies with a security update. If you obtain regular security updates from a major anti-virus service, you should receive an update covering the XCP software through that process. You may download the software at http://cp.sonybmg.com/xcp/english/updates.html. This same software provides the option of uninstalling the XCP content protection components from your computer.

Because a prior tool provided in November 2005 to uninstall the XCP content protection software from computers may have given rise to separate security risks, we strongly recommend that you either download the update/uninstaller software from here or follow the instructions below. If the file "CodeSupport Control" is not found in the above directory, then your computer is not affected.

If you have installed either the XCP software or the MediaMax 5.0 software on your computer, you MUST either update the software or uninstall that software using the secure tools available from the Sony website in order to be eligible for benefits.

Alternatively, look at the back of the CD packaging. If you see a black and white table with "Compatible With" on the side, our disc contains some form of contect protection. If the URL at the bottom of the table ends with the letters "XCP" - specifically http://cp.sonybmg.com/xcp - that disc contains the XCP software which is the subject of the FAQ. Note, there are three exceptions.

You must firstly chose the “disable” option from the BT Modem Protection icon in the system tray, then uninstall the application by choosing start>settings>control panel>add remove programs>BT Modem Protection>remove.

To remove the KODAK ADVANTIX Software from your system, select Start > Programs > KODAK ADVANTIX > FD 300 > Uninstall KODAK ADVANTIX Film Drive software. This will remove the KODAK ADVANTIX (TWAIN), KODAK Launcher, and KODAK ADVANTIX Troubleshooter Software. To remove the Picture Easy Software, refer to the KODAK Picture Easy Software section.

Most programs can be uninstalled using the Windows Add/Remove utility. This can be found in your Control Panel which is accessible by clicking on your Start menu and selecting Settings then Control Panel. In the Windows Add/Remove utility you will see a list of programs that are currently installed on your computer. Scroll down the list until you see the title of the program you wish to remove. Select it and choose to remove the program.

Uninstall capability is built-in with the EMR program. You can click Start->Programs, point to the program's group, find and click Uninstall to remove it from your system. Alternatively, go to the Windows Control Panel, open Add/Remove Programs, and choose the EMR and click Uninstall. As a safety precaution, uninstalling the EMR will not remove the Database. You will have to manually remove it from your system.
