A lot depends on what is customary in your part of the world. Scientifically we use meters, peak to trough, but at the beach that is pretty meaningless because everyone else there is using different 'scale', and each area has it's own scale. [almost, but not quite entirely unlike feet]. It is usual to adhere to local custom, however as alt.

To get the standard height measurement of the opening, be sure to measure the height in several locations. Normal gates are 3/4" off the floor when installed and are built normally to the shortest dimension. The manual says 150 cc's (volume). Marzocchi technical support told me 45-55 mm from the top of the threads inside the fork legs with the springs removed and the fork's outer legs fully compressed. I've had excellent success using the height method. The easiest method to measure the height is to use a straw (of course, don't use it ever again).
