For foreign applications, we require a TOEFL score of 600. While your GRE score is important, we have no specific cut-off for GRE scores, and consider the GRE score to be just one part of your overall application. All applicants must submit a GRE score to be considered for fellowships or graduate teaching assistantships.

Yes, without exception, international applicants who have not received an undergraduate or graduate degree from a U.S. institution are required to take the TOEFL.

If you are an international student from a non-English speaking country, you are required to take the TOEFL and TSE language proficiency tests.

All international students whose native language is not English must take the TOEFL, with the exception of students who earned their Master's degree at an institution in an English-speaking country. of January 1, 2003, the TOEFL/TSE are no longer requirements of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. However, some departments/divisions (e.g. Medicine, Surgery, Psychiatry, Obstetrics and Gynecology) may require one or both tests as part of their application criteria so please check with the department/division to which you are applying for specific language requirements.

You need to take the GRE only if your undergraduate GPA was below 3.0. You need to take the TOEFL only if you have no academic degrees from English-speaking countries. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) are administered by ETS.

All students whose native language is not English must submit test scores for the TOEFL, including the TWE (Test of Written English). Scores for an equivalent standardized English language test, such as the IELTS, may be submitted instead of the TOEFL. Initially, we advise an international applicant to attach photocopies of his/her score reports with the application, but official reports issued by ETS will be required before full processing of that application will take place. In some instances, the Graduate School will accept certified copies of these reports.

International applicants" are individuals who need a visa in order to study or live in the United States. Individuals who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S., no matter where in the world they live or go to school, are not considered "international applicants."

No. If you are offered admission, we will provide full funding and will inform the UW Graduate School. That form is used only by programs which do not provide funding for their students.

When should I apply? The deadline for fall admission is May 15, but we start admitting students early in February. Applications that are received after we have started the admission process have a reduced chance of admission because there will be fewer open positions remaining. For fall applicants, we recommend that the application be mailed no later than mid-January in order to have the best chance of admission. The answer to both questions is yes.
