How do you tune the kalimba?
Kalimba Magic: FAQsThe kalimbas all come tuned to the key of G, except for the karimba (with an "R"), which is very close to the key of A. However, you can tune them any old way you want. Use an electronic tuner to tell you if the note is in tune or not. The ALTO Fundamentals Book and the TREBLE Fundamentals Book will show you how to tune in a bit more detail.
Which kalimba is best for me?
Kalimba Magic: FAQsMy favorite is the ALTO. With exactly two octaves (the bottom note and the top note are both G, the root of the G major scale), it is easy to understand, the tines are wide, and you have the resonant box to make funky wah-wah sounds. For young people (say 10 and under) the board pentatonic or the 8-note are good choices. (The 8-note kalimba, with book, will be available around May 1.) See similar questions...

The kalimba tines hurt my thumbs. What should I do?
Kalimba Magic: FAQsOK, first thing is to grow your thumb nails. They will act as your picks and protect your thumb flesh. After a while, you will get some caluses which will help. With nails and caluses, I am able to play kalimba for 5-6 hours a day without experiencing any pain. There is a new guitar finger pick called the Alaska pick which can fit onto your thumbs for protection. I can vouch for this solution. See similar questions...

Why do I sometimes sing out of tune?
FAQ – Learn From Home Voice Lessons From Home Web Cam ...Singing out of tune means that you are not singing the pitch accurately- you are either "flat" (too low) or "sharp" (too high). Often singers who belt with too much chest voice sing flat-a common result of carrying too much weight up and reaching for high notes. The solution is to use less air pressure and volume, so you can find and develop the "middle voice". Similarly, pushing too hard can cause you to go sharp when too much air blasts against the cords. Why doesn't my guitar stay in tune?
Frequently Asked QuestionsTo best explain the most common causes of this problem, lets follow the path of the strings. We begin at the tuners. If the they are poorly made, loose, or installed incorrectly, the strings will slip. Next, the strings can bind at the nut if the slots are cut at the wrong angle or incorrect width. Now the strings pass over the entire neck and this is where intonation is very important. If it has not been properly set, you will notice some chords sound in tune and others do not. Why is a piano hard to tune?
The Piano Education Page - Piano Frequently Asked Questions ...A piano is hard to tune because it has more than 250 strings and they are held under very high tension, which means that the tuning pins they wrap around have to be set in a strong wooden block very tightly; and THAT means that you have to have a special wrench to turn them up or down. The tuner starts with one string in the middle of the piano (where you can hear best) and gets the pitch for that from somewhere else, usually a tuning fork. See similar questions...
