Everyone must leave the building as quickly as possible when the fire alarm goes off. Assume you will not be allowed to return: take your coat, backpack, purse, etc. with you. If you are in class, tell your students to go outside in an orderly fashion. If you are not on the first floor, tell all able-bodied people to use the stairs rather than the elevator. All security systems have what is called a standby or backup battery. In the event of a power loss in your home or business, this battery can supply power to the system for several hours.

You can cancel the call. If you know your alarm has gone off improperly, call your alarm company immediately. If the call is cancelled before officers or firefighters arrive, it won't count as a false alarm.

A trained dispatcher will call your home to verify if you have set the alarm off inadvertently by yourself and will ask for your name and password. If there is no answer after 5 rings or the correct password is not given, the proper authorities (Police or Guards) are immediately notified and dispatched to your premises.
