Vegetable matter (VM) in your fleece is a controversial and much discussed topic. I cannot process fiber with too much VM contamination. Most of the VM will come out of the fiber during carding but it is just being deposited into my machines. It may take me 3 hours to card your fleece but then another hour to clean my machines. It is just not worth it to any of us. You can always hand pick your fleeces. We do not do this service. As you will find, it is very tedious, filthy and time consuming.

I am well aware that this is a big concern for many people. My background (my past life) was warehouse management and production scheduling. Even though I now have a small shop with only a few employees, I am diligent and strict with keeping each fleece labeled and separate. Every incoming order has a work order written up for each fleece or batch. This paper work has all information for the fiber and of the owner and it stays with the fleece thru the entire process.

Skirting is removing all of the undesirable pieces from your raw fleece. This would be matted or felted parts, dung tags, second cuts, coarser fibers, hoof trimmings, stickers, vegetable material and any foreign objects. Even purchased fleeces should be closely checked for these items. I will be pulling out any items that will harm my machines but I prefer not to skirt the fleeces. This is too subjective and each person has a different comfort level and/or application for their wool.

Most breeders shear their alpacas annually. Alpacas are usually sheared with electric sheering equipment, however some breeders prefer hand shearing because of the density of the fiber. An annual yield of fiber is approximately six pounds from a female and more than ten pounds from a male. The first clipping from a young alpaca is very valuable, as it is very fine and has a lustrous feel. There are approximately 22 shades of alpaca fiber and it can be made into many different garments.

Lice are sometimes seen in llama, mohair and alpaca. Dander or skin flakes similar to dandruff is occasionally seen in mohair goats and in the dual coat wool breeds like Shetland, Icelandic, and Karakul sheep. The good news about lice is they die when they loose their host so we are only seeing the dead nits (or eggs) on the fibers strands. The animal may have had lice at one time, then was wormed or deloused, but the nits are still in the fibers, just dead.

When sewing on polar fleece, you will need to adjust the stitch length 3-4. Set the stitch width at 7.5mm. Loosen the pressure on the foot according to the instruction book. Set the differential feed at the lowest setting 0.6 or 0.7. If serging a coat or top you will need to stabilize the shoulder seam. To do this, place tape into the tape sewing guide. Sew tape to shoulder seam to prevent stretching. Have fun constructing your project!

The Fleece Blankets should be washed in cold or warm water. They should not be dry cleaned. Use soap sparingly and put on "lowest" or "coolest" dryer setting...they dry very quickly!

Yes, the vinyl stickers we print are top quality outdoor weatherproof vinyl with a 7-10 year average life expectancy. The inks we use do not smear, run, or fade in the sunlight. Screenprinted stickers are always better than roll stickers or stickers printed with the flexography method. While these other methods are fine for indoor only use or packaging the so called vinyl clear coat won't protect these stickers from fading or deteriorating in the rain.

Please upload to your server. Linking an image directly from this site will only end in heartache for all of us. Ahh, that's part of the heartache we warned you about in the previous question.
