It is literally a tunnel with large fans where teams send race cars to get measurements. The fans generate wind and hit the car from all different angles. Teams take their cars to the wind tunnel to figure out how well air is flowing over the car. They can stop the wind and make changes, then compare the results to find the best aerodynamic shape. a car moves through the air, the air causes different types of pressure on the surface of the body. These pressures are measurements you get from the wind tunnel. Downforce is another type of air pressure. When the downforce on top of the car is greater than the air pressure on the bottom of the car, you have downforce.
