Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) refers to the manufacturer of the printer, copier or fax machine. Originally, OEM product meant new (not compatible, refilled, recycled or remanufactured). However, with the advent of recycling programs by large manufacturers, you may see comments on their packaging like, “This product may contain new and recovered parts.” In the last few years, most OEM cartridges are a mixture of new and recycled materials.

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer, which means that replacement parts are manufactured by the same company that originally built the parts. In addition, you can get what are sometimes referred to as ???pattern parts', which are modern day reproductions of original parts. O.E.M (Open Equipment Manufacture) products are usually packaged and priced for assembly straight into a computer system. They are the genuine product, are covered by the same RAM Technologies warranties, however often are not packaged with colourful retail packaging, instruction booklets, bundled software or associated extras. OEM generally means "Original Equipment Manufacturers." Bulk-Pack/OEM products do not have fancy packaging materials and are often produced in much higher volume, both of which result in much lower prices. The OEM products are of the same quality and often carry the same manufacturer warranty as their retail counterparts (the single-pack). They also often include supporting materials such as manuals and drivers when applicable.

They are considered service parts by the industry. This means they are provided as repair parts to the manufacturers service companies. This is what makes them difficult for the average retail dealer to supply. Rarely are they in any type of retail packaging and OEM remotes seldom come with any instructions.

The Horsepower (HP) is the engine rating specified by the engine manufacturer and listed on the engine nameplate and/or equipment specification manual and/or it may be listed on the equipment permit description. The four-stroke engine is probably the most common IC engine type. A four-stroke (cycle) IC engine completes its power cycle (intake, compression, power, and exhaust) in two revolutions of the crankshaft as compared to one revolution for the two-stroke (cycle) IC engine.

Explain to the customer that Micro Focus has no way of providing additional licenses for the HP OEM OCDS development product as that product is protected by license management software called FlexLM and Micro Focus does not have the capability to produce FlexLM licenses. The way to resolve this is to have the customer contact the Micro Focus transition team so they can explain the available options.

You may find HP OEM customers that have signed multi-year support contracts with HP that take HP's support obligations beyond the date HP will cease support for OCDS and Server Express on HP-UX i.e. August 31, 2005. Often, these customers may not have heard about the withdrawal from HP. In this situation the customer should contact HP to discuss refunding of the unused portion of their maintenance.

The can be done once the customer contacts Micro Focus to provide details of the platform and licenses currently being used, and the details of the target platform and number of licenses required there.
