These are not ants, but rather a wingless solitary (non-social) female wasp in the family Multillidae. Females are wingless and typically colorful; males have wings. The common name for the group is "velvet ants." Here in Central Texas we have about 40 species of velvet ants, some small and some big. The tiny ants are most likely ghost ants or pharaoh ants although there are several varieties commonly found in South Florida. Ants are beneficial insects. They are scavengers and predators and do not injure plants. They may become a nuisance by building mounds in the garden or entering into the house. You may have a nest of Carpenter ants under your cabinets. A good start is to install one plug under your kitchen sink (in or near the toe kick), and from there, install one plug every 4' on either side of the sink cabinet. Cut approximately one-quarter inches from the bottom of the casing to prevent additional water from wicking into the trim. Since many cichlids dig in the gravel, it is quite possible that your fish will uproot your plants. Some predominantly herbivorous cichlids may eat your plants. Other cichlids will tear up plants "for fun" and are efficient aquatic lawn mowers. If your cichlids chew up your plants, bits of leaves and roots can clog filters. Fire ants reproduce opportunistically when conditions are wet and warm. They are found in all types of soil, but they do better in open pastures and sunny, grassy places than in thick shaded woods. Road-side plants are fine as long as they are not used in something you plan on eating or drinking. Wash them well before hanging them to dry. You might try to transplant one of the plants to a location that's more isolated, like your garden. See if you can find somewhere with similar conditions and replant it there.
