Currently the maps are updated 4 times every year. Apart from that Wayfinder will also correct errors in the map that are reported from the users. Radar helps you see what's around you. An antenna mounted high above your boat (often on the mast of a sailing vessel) sends radar waves down towards the ground, hoping to pick up reflections of land or other boats below. Ward Map atlases, particularly those by the Bromley Company, were often updated using a paste-up method. The publisher issued sheets of paper with small maps of individual properties that had changed since a particular atlas had been published. The subscriber then cut out the updated properties and pasted then right into the atlas. Radar weather updates every 20 minutes at 20 past, 40 past and 00 on the hour. The satellite image updates hourly with data valid on the hour. The FlyteTrax 2000 receives a radar position report on each aircraft once every 4 minutes when they are in the ARTCC airspace. In Africa, satellite is often the less expensive choice with the exception of the cost of the Earth Station. There are a couple of reasons why we chose Landsat imagery for the Land Cover Project. 1) A Landsat image is about 185 kilometers on each side and one image covers almost the entire state. One image, acquired on a cloud free day, would provide the bulk of the data for each of the four dates. Landsat imagery is relatively inexpensive.
