This depends on three things; Opacity of the material, image to be viewed and number of lamps in the light box. Opacity of the material is more important than the thickness. Typically the bench mark material for tracing is 300 lb watercolor paper and most light boxes with 3 or more lamps work fine. However, the contrast of the image to be viewed is a critical element and results vary depending if the image is a pencil or pen drawing or the most difficult, a photograph.

There is a practical limit, and a physical limit. (The Grand Canyon was essentially created with a natural abrasivejet.) The practical limit for most materials and conditions is about two inches thick. Thicker than that, and tolerances drop while machining times increase. For some special projects, however, it is practical to machine material five or more inches thick. This very much depends on the material. Cutting 70mm acrylic and cutting 70mm titanium is a very different situation due to the material hardness. Steel, titanium, aluminium and tool hardened steel can be cut up to 50mm with accuracy. We can cut these materials in thicker formats depending on the accuracy required. NYC’s print options will work on A4 paper, even though NYC is designed for Letter size paper (8.5x11 inches). To use A4 paper, just put A4 paper into your printer, set the printer for A4, and set the printer driver for A4 (see Start menu… Printers and Faxes… right click your printer and select Properties, then make sure paper size is set to A4).
