A number of courses in diving medicine are offered each year that allow physicians and other professionals the opportunity to stay current in diving medical issues.

Anyone can become a technician by attending training and purchasing equipment, however, since these are Class II medical devices they must be used under the supervision of a licensed medical practitioner (Doctors, Naturopaths, Chiropractors, Acupuncturists, etc.). It is best to be aligned with a medical practitioner prior to becoming trained. The Electro-Acuscope and Electro-Myopulse devices create a powerful new income stream for any medical practice.

Lab technicians work in commercial laboratories with 2 to 10 technician, private dental offices, manufacturing companies, hospitals, self-employed. Some very large laboratories hire as many as 1,000 technicians.

A pharmacy technician has numerous responsibilities both behind the counter and on the floor of both retail and hospital pharmacies. Some of a pharmacy technician’s duties might include preparing prescription labels, pricing and filling prescriptions, establishing and maintaining patient profiles, preparing insurance claim forms, and stocking and taking inventory of prescription and over-the-counter medications.

Pharmacy technicians generally work in clean, organized, well-lighted and well-ventilated areas in retail and mail-order pharmacies or hospitals. Most of their workdays are spent on their feet, and they may be required to lift heavy boxes or use stepladders to retrieve supplies from high shelves. Technicians work the same hours as pharmacists, which may include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

You can request a certain technician to do your service. We try to accommodate as best as possible but scheduling changes occasionally occur.

There are four different kinds of upstream oil and gas technicians working in the industry. The following is a snapshot of the kind of work they carry out. If you're interested we can tell you much more when you come for an interview or a chat. Do not confuse this type of technician with a domestic electrician! Their job is to look after high voltage power generation and distribution systems, motors, control systems and electrical equipment specially designed for use in hazardous areas.

Nail technicians use a primer to help acrylic nail extension products adhere better to the nail. Primers are special formulations that, if applied improperly, can cause nail damage. Therefore, it is a good idea to leave the application of primers in the hands of the nail technicians. Not all nail extensions require the use of a primer. Wrapped nails, such as fiberglass, silk and linen, or glue and powder applications do not require the application of a primer.

OSU does not offer a pharmacy technician program. Several Oregon and Washington colleges have pharmacy technician programs, including Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay, Ore.; Linn Benton Community College in Albany, Ore.; and Clark College in Vancouver, Wash.; Apollo College in Portland, Ore., also has a pharmacy technician program.

Nail technicians are required to keep their license visibly posted at their work station. Most states require that there be a photo of the license holder on the license. If you do not see a license, including a salon license, ask to see it. If this request is refused, leave the salon and report it to the local regulatory authority. Unlicensed practice is illegal.

Some technicians wear masks to protect themselves from dust and vapors from products used in nail services. Some also have allergies that make it more comfortable to work for long hours in the salon. A mask is not always a sign that a technician is using MMA, but it can be an indicator. Check the other indicators of MMA use if you see the technician wearing a mask. If most of those indicators are visible, you have to decide whether you want to patronize that salon.

Choose a technician carefully by considering training, experience, and portfolio. It is important to remember that the shape and proper placement of the procedure is as important as the right color. The desired look is obtained during the course of consultation, initial procedure and follow up procedures. Interaction between the client and the technician should be of utmost importance.

Effective September 2006, any person seeking experiential or training hours in a pharmacy is required to register as a Technician Trainee with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. Students must provide proof of Technician Trainee Registration at the time of application.
