The rule became effective on July 1, 2007 and applies to all mattress sets manufactured in the United States or imported into the United States on or after that date. The standard requires that each mattress set bear a permanent label stating that the mattress complies with the standard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that the new standard may eliminate up to 75 percent of the deaths and injuries that occur annually from mattress fires.

Be sure to check the label! All Englander mattresses are made of the finest quality, new materials. They are never reconditioned or recovered. Mattresses returned to retail stores by dissatisfied customers are sent back to the manufacturers. In many states it is illegal for mattresses to be resold by the retailer.

A common technique used by most mattress producers today to meet the new standard is to enclose the cushioning material within a mattress with a barrier fabric that blocks either heat, oxygen or both from reaching the cushioning material. These fabrics may be woven, knit or non-woven products. Mattress producers usually sew the barrier fabric into the mattress between the ticking cover and the interior cushioning material.

Because mattress "loss of comfort and support" is so gradual, you may not realize that your current sleep set is not as supportive as it used to be. Experts agree that it is a good idea to replace your sleep set every 8-10 years to insure you are getting the healthful, restful sleep you deserve.

If your current box spring doesn't creak or sag and if the springs aren't "bouncy," perhaps you can consider using your old box spring and just purchasing a new mattress.

Some meets have minimum qualifying times. Some meets have maximum qualifying times. This can be found in the meet information for that meet. It is very important to abide by these guidelines. You will be fined if you enter a meet for which you are not qualified.

The International Sleep Products Association (ISPA) says a good bed will last 8 – 10 years with continuous use.
