When installing Timbuktu Pro, gets this Error Message: Error #9, Remote control components cannot be installed. Task aborted

Timbuktu Pro 32 is the latest release of Timbuktu for Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 95/98. This version is fully compatible with Windows 98. Timbuktu Pro for Windows 1.5 will not be upgraded to support Windows 98. However, version 1.5.x does support Windows NT machines and all other versions of the Windows OS. Timbuktu Pro for Windows version 1.1 works with Windows 3.x and Windows 95 only. Currently, it is only available to Timbuktu Enterprise customers.

I install it on a new computer (or hard disk drive taken down to "bare metal") from the DOS prompt with a Windows 98 Startup floppy. Put a copy of smartdrv.exe on the Startup floppy. You should be able to find a copy on and existing Windows 9x/Me computer at C:\windows. It is on the CD's in D:\win98. Boot to the floppy and use fdisk to partition the drive. Format the C: drive. Do not install the system files.

Yes. Insert the Windows XP upgrade CD, and start Setup if necessary. When prompted, click Install Windows. At the Welcome to Windows Setup window, choose the installation type New Installation (Advanced). Click Next, and follow the instructions. Setup will prompt you to insert a valid CD containing your earlier version of Windows as proof that you qualify for the upgrade.

You must have a retail Windows 98, 98 SE, Millennium Edition (Me), NT 4.0, or 2000 CD-ROM, Full Version or Upgrade, to qualify for the Windows XP upgrade versions. Restore CDs from PC makers do not qualify.

The Timbuktu Pro for Windows 1.5.x has no known issues with the year 2000 and can be installed on Windows 3.x, Windows 95, and Windows NT machines. Since Timbuktu Pro is a set of services that runs on top of the protocol layer, it is fully compatible with any third party LAN based encryption schemes (Virtual Private Networks) or connection protocols such as PPTP. Passwords are encrypted and connections are established using a challenge and response protocol.
