The Ridgeback is an extremely clean dog with little odor and minimal shedding. Its short, dense coat sheds little. In general, a Ridgeback kept indoors sheds a little all year round, whereas an outside one will experience seasonal shedding. They do not drool, except in anticipation of food. They are generally easy to housetrain and are not overactive in the house. They will take over the furniture unless their owners discourage this habit from puppy hood.

The males are larger than the females, averaging 22 to 24 inches at the withers and weighing 50 to 60 pounds. The females average 20 to 22 inches tall and weigh about 35 to 55 pounds as adults. Of course, all dogs shed to some degree and they will shed, depending upon the climate in which they live. In warmer climates the Thai Ridgeback Dog won't grow a heavier winter coat, thus shedding will be limited.

They can be very good house dogs, but they are very large, shed with enthusiasm, and may knock things over with their large tails. If you are a finicky house cleaner, this breed would be a challenge for you. Any dog can be trained to live in the house, but puppies and young dogs need a lot of exercise. A large dog door, allowing access to both indoors and out, can accommodate both exercise and an Anatolian's appreciation of indoor comforts! All puppies and young adults chew.

TRD's are naturally protective of their family and territory. They do tend to be aggressive toward other dogs, unless properly socialized at a young age. The females can be more aggressive with each other as it is natural for them to be protective of their home. Males will often play together if introduced appropriately. But not always.

Black (Sidum), Blue (Siswad=silver-grayblue), Red (SiDang), and Fawn (SiBua). With the red and fawn coloring, a black mask is often seen on the RED TRD only. For show quality, the color should be solid with no white markings. Yes and No. The TRD is RECORDED with the AKC's Foundation Stock Service. They are fully recognized by the UKC. They are able to be shown at rare breed shows and fun matches all across America. In Europe they are shown under a group called FCI.

Yes. The TRD is a very excellent dog to have in your home. They are very easy to house train and teach them proper household manners.

Maybe. There is no such thing as a non-allergenic dog. But because Kerries are non-shedding they are sometimes recommended to people with allergies and they may actually be more tolerable than a shedding breed. However, allergic reactions are unique to each person. The sufferer should spend as much time as possible with Kerries in the dogs' living quarters to determine if the breed is suitable before taking one home. Maybe! These are delightful dogs, good with families, and very adaptable. On the other hand they require a good deal of effort and commitment from the owner, perhaps more than most breeds. Between the need for exercise, socialization, and grooming; a commitment for many hours of attention a week may be needed for the next 15 years. Many responsible terrier breeders are reluctant to place dogs with first time dog owners.

There are a range of problems with commercial dog foods. I will provide some links below, but in summary: a dog's food should never be cooked. It should be fed in a raw natural state like nature intended. Cooking a dog's food ruins most of the nutritional value. dogs should have access to raw meaty bones. These clean their teeth, work and develop their neck and jaw muscles, and the chewing action prepares their stomach for the incoming food mass.

There is little nutrient value in hard, dense marrow bones. And besides, chewing on the bones is likely to break teeth. This is especially so when the bones are sawn lengthwise - they act as a lever to split the upper carnassial tooth (three pointed tooth) which then becomes infected and painful. Wolves, lions and other carnivores leave the long marrow bones. It's only hyenas that have the specialised jaws to deal with such bones.
