When you eat, drink, or even chew gum, you introduce air into the stomach and bowel. Sound waves do not penetrate air, making it harder to see the target organs. Food can also make your gall bladder contract, making it harder to image.

Eating promotes more bowel gas which makes visualization difficult. Also, the gallbladder contracts, preventing a thorough examination.

Drinking too much soda can throw you into a “sugar high.” Be aware how much sugar you are taking in. The high may feel good, but don’t forget you will come back down.

The ultrasound procedure is performed by a sonographer, who is a trained technician skilled in the art of obtaining ultrasound images. The equipment consists of a transducer and a monitoring system. The transducer is a small, hand-held device that resembles a microphone. The patient lies on their back on an examination table, and a clear gel is applied to the abdomen to help the transducer make secure contact with the skin.

There are several reasons for this rule. First, if there are contents in your stomach, you are more likely to get nauseated and get sick after surgery, and no one wants that. Second, when anything is present in your stomach, including water, excess saliva, food or drink, these contents can be regurgitated and inhaled into the lungs. Remember that on Food Days, you "eat normally", which includes all the foods you normally eat, and even some "treats" to reward yourself for doing another Diet Day successfully. The One Day Diet is not a "deprivation diet", for you only "diet" for 1 day, then eat your favorite foods the very next day.

Stomach Stapling: Usually right after the operation, you are put on a strict menu of liquid foods. You will be on a strict diet plan while you heal. The doctor will let you know what foods you will be able to eat and when you start eating them. Most patients become lactose intolerant after the operation. Your obesity treatment facility should work with you after the operation to change your diet and show you which foods are good for you and which are not.
