This happens because the SIM card holder has been opened during the act of trying to insert your SIM card. For security and safety purposes, the holder must be locked at all times in order for your phone to operate. So, once it is opened, your phone will automatically switch off.

Remove the battery pack, located under the battery cover on the back of the phone. With the metal contacts facedown, align the notch on the SIM card with the notch on the SIM slot and insert the SIM card. If SIM is inserted correctly, you will not be able to see the metal contacts after inserting the card, because they are facing away from you. Replace the battery pack and battery cover then turn on the phone. If SIM was installed properly, you will be able to begin making calls.

To insert the SIM card in your handset please refer to the handset manual provided by manufacturer, You can either insert the entire card or plug in the chip into your handset, depending on the model.

You may never need to do it, but just in case, here's how to install your SIM card and your battery. By the way, SIM stands for "Subscriber Information Module." It's a postage stamp sized silicon wafer that contains your phone number and all the data required to make your phone work. To insert your SIM card and your battery you will need to remove the back cover plate.

Ordinary cell phone service works so that the unique serial number in your phone (its ESN) is used by the cell phone service provider to identify who you are. You have not inserted the SIM or you have inserted it incorrectly. Insert the card with the golden plate facing down. The SIM card or battery terminals may be dirty. Insert the card into the card slot as shown. (The EVOLT E-500 supports xD-Picture Card media as well as CompactFlash? media.) Push the card gently straight in until it clicks.
