Due to the large number of general science prerequisites, some students have found that majors such as Biology, Psychology, and Physics are most beneficial. However, a broad spectrum of undergraduate majors has produced successful physical therapists. Although a bachelor's degree is required, there is no single major that is superior to another for entrance into the physical therapy program.

The "best" major of study is ANY area in which the student would enjoy working after receiving his or her undergraduate degree. The major should be selected based on the student's interests. The School of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Sciences does not have a preferred major area of study for the baccalaureate degree as long as prerequisite courses are completed.

The American Bar Association, in its publication, "Preparation for Legal Education," does not recommend any particular major for law school. Many English majors do go on to law school. In fact, an English major provides excellent preparation for legal studies; law schools count on students to be skilled at careful reading and writing. This is why it is important to take a challenging course of study that includes advanced courses, directed independent study, and where applicable, research experience.

The GGCS admissions committee is primarily looking for individuals who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement in computer science. However, we know that a student with an undergraduate major in a related field (electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, etc.) may have the ability to do well in our program. In addition, in the past truly exceptional students with a background in a field not related to computer science have been admitted to our program.

No. There are required prerequisite courses, which are mostly in the sciences, but we do not give preference to specific undergraduate majors. We advise students to choose a major in an area of their interest and one, which they will be academically successful. Most of the time this information cannot be provided via e-mail or phone. We advise students to submit a written request including course catalog descriptions to the Director of Admissions, Department of Physical Therapy.

No. For programs that lead to teaching certification, New York State requires that applicants have a strong background in the liberal arts and sciences. Some programs require additional prior certifications or teaching experience. All programs require that students already have a bachelor's degree.
