Our office offers copies of the program that we use to make tide predictions for the NOS Tidal Reference Stations. Our office is not in the business of software development and distribution. The program we use was developed for our use and is not user-friendly. The program is written in FORTRAN and requires the use of a separate control file for each location that predictions are being made for.

There are any number of web sites that have tide predictions on them. Due to the rapid growth of the World Wide Web, we do not attempt to keep up with the other sites that have tide predictions on them; nor do we verify the accuracy of their predictions. Caution should be exercised when using tide predictions from other websites. Some obtain their tide predictions from our office; others obtain their predictions from sources that may or may not be accurate or up to date.

Daily tide predictions for the present calendar year are available for more than 3,000 locations around the USA in the High/Low Tide Predictions section of our website. The predictions presented in this section of our website are updated in late October or November to cover the next calendar year. For example, the predictions for 2009 will be added to the website in October or November of 2008.

International Format - This format is an electronic ASCII file that provides time and height of tide information for a single location in a column-delimited format. This format is most suitable for importing into a database, plotting, or other computer program. The following example for EASTPORT, ME, April, 1997 shows the predictions in 24-hour clock and in Eastern Standard Time. This information can be modified to show AM/PM Time and Daylight Savings Time.

Due to an agreement through the International Hydrographic Organization, we receive annual tide predictions for countries outside the United States every year. Therefore, you can obtain tide predictions for many locations around the world for the present calendar year by contacting our office.

The list of stations available from the High/Low Tide Predictions section of our website includes all of the stations that we can provide predictions for along the U.S. coast. This list include presently operating and historically observed tidal stations. This list of stations is updated annually to include any newly observed or revised stations. The list of stations available from the Tides Online section of our website includes all of the tidal stations that are presently being observed.

We cannot legally make copies of programs we acquire for our schedule. Whether from PBS or other distributors, we are only offered the rights to broadcast, and sometimes cablecast a program.

Twice a day weather balloons are launched from locations all over the U.S. and around the world. As the balloon ascends it records and transmits back temperatures, humidity, pressure, as well as wind speed and direction at various layers of the atmosphere. This snapshot of what is currently happening in the atmosphere is fed into the computer models, which are complex systems of equations that mathematically model the behavior of the atmosphere.

With our obligations for safety and liability for all the data we publish we must remain guarded whenever considering changes to long-established tidal data, which we have published in good faith from the outset. Nevertheless, we are only too prepared to re-evaluate our tidal data at any time in the light of reported discrepancies.

Our statistical ratings are geared towards predicting future performance, for full-on wagering uses. Each feature and columnist makes its own picks against the spread, and records are tracked meticulously against a neutral consensus line to help you understand the predictive power of the various tools. So yes, picks are readily available. the same time, successful handicappers with existing strategies can incorporate our more accurate data into their own methods and improve their results.

Alas, although the two are clearly connected in the physical world, they are unrelated from the perspective of XTide. Even for the same location, tide predictions and current predictions require two completely separate data sets, and rarely will you get both. As of 2005-01, there are no currents available in the latest data (the National Ocean Service has not made them available on their web site).

Certainly. We can say that "a warm event will occur" with enough advance notice to be useful and that will probably prove to be correct in most instances. The projections of climate impacts, given that an event will probably occur, are more tenuous. Such projections are probabilistic, aimed at the center of our expectations, not at the fringes of what is remotely possible, and they are still not terribly accurate, though much better than anything we could do 20 years ago.

Adobe ImageReady, sometimes version 3.0 and sometimes CS. I use it mainly because it has layers and transparency, the ability to save good-quality web images, and it can animate if that's what I want to do, all in one program.

I use Paint Shop Pro. I edit the images, make layers, put effects on the images and whatever I'd like to add to the montages. I also use this program to edit my screen caps. I've been using Paint Shop Pro for a few years and have fell in love with it.

Currently Adobe Photoshop CS, which I also use to make a few of my layouts even this current layout. Before I had cs, it was Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and before that it was Arcsoft Photostudio 2000.
