The impedance of your cabinet should match the impedance stated on the back of your amplifier with regards to valve amplifiers these will normally have a selector or different speaker sockets for different impedances.

To find the impedance of speakers in series, just add them, or (assuming they all have the same impedance) multiply the impedance times the number of speakers: total impedance = impedance of 1 speaker * number of speakers Example: To find the impedance of 4 4-ohm speakers wired in series, just multiply 4 (ohms) * 4 (speakers) = 16 (ohms).

Use the [highest impedance] tap. There will be a slight difference in the tone (a tad more low end) but that's not the reason to do it; the 16-ohm tap uses the tranny's entire output winding to transfer power to the load, unlike the 4-ohm tap which uses only a small portion of it. This minimizes thermal stress on the secondary. If you use your cabinet in stereo mode (two 8-ohm inputs) and run two wires from the amp, that's still a 4-ohm load, as the output jacks on your amp are in parallel.

Your cabinet should have a model number and rating plate on the back, if there is no rating plate the cabinet will need to have the impedance measured by an engineer. We do not recommend using the cabinet until the impedance has been checked as it could damage both your amplifier and cabinet if either is used incorrectly. If your cabinet has a rating plate the impedance of the cabinet must match the impedance of the amplifier you are connecting it to.

All dual channel Crown amplifiers can be treated as if they are two separate "mono" amplifiers (One channel completely independent of the other) For example: A Macro-Tech 1202 can function with a single eight-ohm speaker on channel one and four eight-ohm speakers (a two-ohm load) on channel two. A Com-Tech 410 can function with one or two eight-ohm speakers on one channel and the other channel switched to 70-volt operation.

Reason 1: Distortion causes the power spectrum to shift upwards in frequency. A bass note, when distorted, will have lots of high frequency energy. It is relatively easy to connect a HSU subwoofer to certain computer sound cards. These sound cards have a dedicated subwoofer output. Without a subwoofer output on the card, it is still possible to hook up a VTF or STF-3 subwoofer, since these subwoofers have stereo inputs. Use a Radio Shack splitter/adapter (one 1/8-inch stereo male to two 1/8-inch stereo female). Take the stereo 1/8-inch output from the computer sound card.
